Born and raised in a small farming community in South Texas. I began to understand the importance of farming but had not grasped its impact on global cultures. My experiences in my academic career allowed me opportunities to visit various regions and cultures where I developed my passion for food security. I have now progressed in the academic realm where I feel I can make a greater impact. I am now a PhD student working in root phenomics in which my research is focused on non-destructive root mensuration for drought tolerant trait detection and selection.
