Three interesting facts about global issues #Badge8
1. Total food production around the globe is more than enough to feed each and every person on the earth but the problem is of unequal distribution. One country might have food surplus but other might have food deficit. India is home to large number of hungry people but the food grain production is running in surplus and the country is exporting to many other countries!
2. In the world food summit of 1996 all the participating nations have agreed upon a common definition of food security which constitutes availability, accessibility, stability and utilization. It is very interesting to note that utilization is an important part of food security. A country might be having food surplus but if people doesn't have the awareness/literacy on the importance of wholesome diet people will suffer from malnutrition. In India malnutrition of children is a serious issue and is directly related to the education level of mother.
3. We have observed that farmers of developing countries are the worst hit in every scenario. The margins the farmers gets from its produce is very low. Farmers are also shifting from production of food grains to cash crops. This leads to high food insecurity when cash crops fails. This particular situation has taken lives of so many farmers in Vidarbha Maharashtra
