Our mission is to build a hub to connect a do-it-yourself community of urban indoor farmers, open source engineers, entrepreneurs, learners, academics, consumers and foodies in Montreal. We believe that todays problems require new processes and building synergy between disciplines, projects and people. In this food innovation hub, we are looking to prototype, integrate and automatize a variety of indoor production systems - mushrooms, spirulina, micro-greens, aquaponics and hydroponics - into a zero waste, closed loop cycle. This physical space would be also a place to teach and learn with the larger community.
Our team regroups a variety of experiences, interests and nationalities. We are engineers, growers, connectors, researchers and entrepreneurs working together for this challenge. We are a dynamic group of youth looking to build resilient and diverse food systems. After experimenting different urban production techniques and building a strong network, we are ready to move into an indoor space. Despite being a leading city in sustainability, Montreal still lacks an accessible space for learning, testing and developing new economic opportunities for youth and community around indoor food production, which we hope to start through this challenge. Our team includes : Mahdiah El Jed, Hugo Martorell, Wayne Radford and Pablo Velez
