Our Mission

Team Out Of The Box Thinkers in partnership with the Thought for Food foundation has aim to demolish the possibility of a lack of food from our planet and to open the minds of world citizens to make use of the abundant "alternative" source of food nature has to offer.

Our Background

We believe that there is more than enough food for the world's population to enjoy. Even though the possibilities of accomplishing this dream are far and few apart, there can be and will be enough food for the year population of 2050 only if collectively we work to achieve that dream. Creative and innovative thinking are the key to accomplishing this paramount life goal. We observed from a tender age that multiple "tons" of plant produce were going to waste annually. These produce included cultivated crops and, most importantly uncultivated plants that, at some parts of the world have even been eaten, yet grow fast and abundantly and then return to the soil as waste. As curious researchers we have taken on the task to investigate plants such as Crescentia cujete (calabash) for it’s nutritional values and other characteristics that will make them edible. This investigation will open the minds and pallet to a wider variety of food (mostly from plants) hence reducing the demand for traditional crops such as rice and wheat. Our team comprises of four innovative thinkers from The University of the West Indies, at Mona who want to promote the consumption of the lesser and "forgotten" food that goes to waste in a vast majority annually, hence making food security a reality. The basic ideal all comes down to utilizing what we already have and creating something new. “There are genuinely sufficient resources in the world to ensure that no one, nowhere, at no time, should go hungry” Ed Asner.
