HarvestBin

“More Food. Less Waste”

HarvestBin is a farming system that enables farmers to sustainably grow crops, keep poultry and fish using organic waste and water. .

Use Case

Users are willing and ready to adopt the technology, this is reflected from the survey we carried out.

Potential

The concept will increase food production through using small unused urban spaces and it will allow grain targeted as poultry feed for human consumption hence reducing competition on human food.

Business Case

We developed a model for delivering “HarvestBin” kits and technical advice to farmers through private “HarvestBin” Business Advisors (HBAs). These HarvestBin Business Advisors are independent micro-entrepreneurs trained either online or using ‘brick and motor’ by “HarvestBin Team” to encourage and equip farmers to keep poultry and grow vegetables using a self feeding system. HBAs sell “HarvestBin” kits at a profit, often on credit with payment in installments, and provide technical advice as an embedded service during return visits throughout the season. “HarvestBin” does not pay salaries to HBAs instead providing services to them such as training, bulk purchasing power, credit access, market information, new product development, and promotion.

Objectives:

  1. • To improve nutrition through poultry, fish and vegetable production using a standalone farming system
  2. • To increase urban agriculture using and integrated farming system
  3. • To setup a self recycling system so wastes at one point are resources at another point
