Radio Disney Interview with Cricket Flours

We are so excited to release our recent interview with Radio Disney Portland! Radio Disney invited Cricket Flours to come to their Portland station and talk more about our company and what we are doing with cricket flours. Not only was the Radio Disney studio amazing, but it was great to talk about what we are doing at Cricket Flours, and also the ideas behind it.

While the focus of the interview was on Cricket Flours, it was also on entrepreneurship and kids can start launching their own ideas…whether that involves cricket flours, or not! We spoke about who inspired me growing up. How are parents able to inspire their kids to try out new ideas, and step out on their own while be there to help support them. Our Mission

Cricket Flours, LLC was founded in 2014 to provide a sustainable source of protein to US markets through the use of milled crickets. Our product has enhanced protein and nutritional levels and is a sustainable alternative to competing protein sources. Cricket Flours is inspired by global trends but targeted towards American dietary trends through the use of gluten-free and grain-free ingredients. Cricket Flours launched its first product line, a protein supplement, in June 2014, and is currently working on a new All-Purpose Cricket Flour Baking Mix.

Our Background

Cricket Flours was founded by students with a backgrounds ranging from startups, gluten-free baking, private equity, business development, and US Air Force operations. While we have strong academic and professional backgrounds, it is our passion for our families, better nutrition, and healthy living that has been a driving force behind Cricket Flours. Charles Wilson has been baking and using gluten-free recipes with his family for over 15-years. However, after learning about a new protein bar using cricket flour and reading the 2013 FAO report titled, "Edible Insects: Future prospects for food and feed security," he knew that their must be a better way for people to incorporate insects into their diets. Our new All-Purpose Cricket Flour Baking Mix, will allow people that already love to bake, to experience an enhanced nutritional profile with 35% more protein than their average baking flour. Our new product will allow our customers to take advantage of a sustainable and environmentally friendly protein source, and incorporate it into their everyday diets. We know that the world faces a problem of finding a way to increase our current food production levels by 50-60% by 2050. However, our product is the perfect stepping stone to allow for people to start incorporating this new protein source into their own family recipes that they have grown to love.
