Use Case

Jill has a great idea for an app but doesn't know the first thing about starting a business and she needs a great team to help her do it. The Startup Pirates program can fill this need. Jill applies and is accepted to one of their one-week accelerator programs near her, where she and other aspiring entrepreneurs learn how to develop a business idea. With a very hands-on approach and the support of a large community of experts, the Startup Pirates program combines workshops and mentoring with a clear focus on accelerating the development of startups. After the program, the Startup Pirates network of partners supports Jill as she builds and scales her business.

Potential

We believe in the power of “start small, think big” and we believe entrepreneurs have the passion and drive to change the world. Startup Pirates aims to amplify this energy by hosting programs locally that train aspiring entrepreneurs how to build their businesses. By recruiting volunteers to host and run Startup Pirates programs in their own cities, we can reach entrepreneurs in any city in the world. Unlike many similar organizations, the Startup Pirates program prepares entrepreneurs not just for the realities of starting a business in the United States, but rather introduces them to the conditions and expectations of the global marketplace.

Business Case

As a worldwide initiative, Startup Pirates would never grow without the support of dedicated local organizing teams. We utilize a licensing structure where each local organizing team pays a small fee to Startup Pirates in exchange for the content, materials and expertise developed by our team. All the speakers and mentors for each program are local entrepreneurs who share their knowledge with the participating Pirates. All organizers and guests are volunteers, collaborating on a non-profit basis to help us change the world, one entrepreneur at a time!

Objectives:

  1. Have Startup Pirates programs around the globe
  2. Generate long-term impact by empowering entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to develop projects inside or outside corporations
  3. Empower local entrepreneurial ecosystems

Our Mission

Startup Pirates is a one-week program that enables aspiring entrepreneurs to get inside the startup world and learn how to develop a business idea.

Our Background

In 2011 Startup Pirates was taking it's first steps. The project didn’t have a name or a structure yet, it was just a very persistent idea in the founders’ minds. There were three big reasons why we decided to create Startup Pirates: We felt that Universities were not preparing students to create their own companies; We felt the different existing programs/events were more suitable for the reality of the American market, but not for the rest of the world; We wanted to show that entrepreneurship is really possible and has the power to change people’s lives and contribute to the growth of the economy.
