Use Case

We are going to check how many people need our services and the by using application, we can track how many food we can collect at that day. For example, a restaurant can inform us their waste at the end of the day through our application. Then we can collect their waste and reprocess them. After confirming the quality of the food, we will decide whether we can sell them to the poor people directly or sell them to the farmers as fodder and fertilizer. Thus, we can connect the demanders and suppliers via our application efficiently in order to solve the food distribution and the poverty problem.

Potential

It can solve malnutrition caused by poverty, reduce pollution, and conserve energy. Through our project we can reduce recycling cost of food waste, make profit, and provide companies doing a CSR opportunity.

Business Case

We are going to check how many people need our services and by using our application, we can track how many food we can collect at that day. And then, by processing the collected food we are going to know which food can be sold to the poor people and which food can only be sold as feed or fertilizers. In adition, we will make a profit by three ways with this project. Firstly, advertising. We can use our food distribution truck to advertise our suppliers such as hotels, restaraunts. Secondly, selling. by selling our leftovers to the food suppliers, fertilizer, feeds. Finally, during the 3 to 5 years of our projects, we fulfill the labor from volunteer saving the labor cost.

Objectives:

  1. Poverty : Provides the foods with cheaper prices
  2. Reduce pollution : Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, prevents the land pollution by the foods
  3. Conserve energy : Conserves natural resources such as timer water and minerals

Our Team

Our Mission

Our team is called Melting Pot. We call ourselves Melting Pot because each member of our team comes from different countries, our project mission is to solve food waste and hunger problem. The reason we use the name "Melting Pot" is also because the food comes from different places. Our main vision is that through our project we can solve two problems which are "unnecessary food waste" and at the same time "poor people's hunger problem".

Our Background

We found that hunger problems main cause is not because there is lack of foods, but because there is uneven distribution where there is people with overabundance of food and people who needs food but had no economic capability to purchase it. So we would like to fix this unbalance by filling the gaps between the two. We are planning to use an application to gauge how many leftover foods we can collect at that day. After that, we will go to these places to collect the food to be further processed. The qualified foods will be sold to food suppliers whom will in turn sell it to poor people, and the unqualified foods will be sold to feed and fertilizer's producers.
