CityCrop

Automated Systems of Indoor Hydroponic Cultivation

CityCrop is an intelligent indoor hydroponic farm that enables people to grow fresh and healthy veggies all year-round.

Use Case

John is 35 years old guy who lives in a big city. He is well educated and he has a successful career. His monthly salary allows him to enjoy his everyday life. He goes to the gym, he is a technology enthusiast, he wants to eat healthy and he is sensitized about the climate change. He has a son and he wants to teach him the importance of healthy eating habits. Therefore, he searches products and services related to technology and healthy diet in order to know what he puts not only in his but also in his family's plate.

Potential

Arable land is scarce and already reaching its maximum capacity due to mono-cultures and the increasing use of chemicals. Yields are declining due to droughts and floods caused by the effects of climate change. Also, our food travels halfway around the world before it reaches our plate. And we are faced by global urbanization [80% will live in cities by 2050 (FAO)]. We have never before seen imbalance on our planet. CityCrop is the first fully automated home growing device and works in combination with the CityCrop app which allows you to grow veggies, small fruits and herbs up to 3 times faster, using 60% less fertilizer, and up to 98% less water than traditional agriculture. With this small vertical farm you can have up to 200g production per day.

Business Case

The business model is based on two pillars. It’s the purchase of the physical CityCrop device and the optional monthly subscription which provides seeds and nutrients. The primary source of revenue will be the purchase of the physical CityCrop device and optionally an opt-in subscription model for the user to buy extra seeds and nutrients for cultivation. We don’t charge the software extra that comes with the device since the price is bundled with the hardware.

Objectives:

  1. CityCrop is the easiest way to grow the freshest, healthiest plants and produce available.
  2. CityCrop raises awareness regarding healthy eating habits which contribute not only to health but also to the value of the environment.
  3. CityCrop is the sustainable technological product to tackle nutritional deficiencies and world hunger.

With our device you can save money, time and water and the food waste is less. We want to build a community where everyone shares the growing experience of their fruits, veggies and herbs. In that way our users can stay engaged and enjoy the benefits of indoor farming.
