Project Eden

Re-inventing Agricultural Financing

We want to link investors with agricultural businesses and startups via an online interactive platform cum virtual agro-exchange market.

Use Case

Interested investors register on the platform as "Green Buyers" and can assess agro-businesses (Green Pots) where investments can be channeled. Farms, startups or agricultural firms also need prior registration before they can participate in this programme. Depending on level of education and sophistication, these operators may register as "Green Keepers" personally or through a viable representative who can act on their behalf. A variety of features are also to be made available on the website to make the experience worthwhile.

Potential

Areas like Africa and Asia are suffering from hunger and poverty as a result of several factors; land tenure systems, pest infestations, little technological advancement, etc. But the most important of all problems is the lack of sustainable financing of agricultural projects. By re-inventing agricultural financing through our idea, we hope to bring together a pool of investors from all over the world to have a hand in agriculture and propel a shift from subsistence farming to large scale farming. This would ultimately increase food supply, reduce price levels and conveniently put food on every table by 2050, hopefully.

Business Case

Registration fees are paid by both Green Buyers and Green Keepers upon introduction into the platform. Also, annual subscription will be charged for site maintenance and account renewals. An administrative team will be set up to monitor, supervise and regulate the activities on the website. Personal selling, referrals and advert placements will be considered in designing marketing strategies. A virtual agro-market will be incorporated into the website to provide resources and other products at affordable prices. Profits from these transactions would go to the Project Eden Team. As soon as possible legal protection would be sought for the product.

Objectives:

  1. To bring massive financing into the agricultural sector.
  2. To open up agricultural investment opportunities for interested investors all over the globe.
  3. To eradicate world hunger through translation from rural subsistence farming to commercial agriculture.

Our Mission

The Transformers; Emmanuel, Daniel, Similoluwa and Janet are students of the Department of Economics, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. In line with the TFF agenda, we hope to generate ideas and innovation that will help eradicate hunger and possibly feed 100% of the worlds population by 2050.

Our Background

According to the Hunger Statistics provided by The World Food Programme of the United Nations, some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth. The vast majority of the world's hungry people live in developing countries, where 13.5 percent of the population is undernourished. The Transformers is a team of 4 students of the University of Ilorin whose ultimate aim is to put an end to the food crisis in the world. We are contesting in this challenge to contribute effectively to the eradication of hunger especially in the most affected areas of the world (Asia and Africa).
