PeeLMeal

Don't Waste Coz We Can Make It Taste

We aim to utilize fruit & vegetable leftovers - peels, rinds & leaves to make edible dishes & provide tasty, cheap & nutritious food to people

Use Case

Raju is a daily wage labourer.Earlier he could afford just 2 meals a day as each costed ₹20 but now,he can eat 3 meals a day at the PeeLMeal e-cart which serves food at just ₹ 9.Reena is worried about her daughter Mansi’s love for candies.Reena feels that they are artificially prepared and have no nutritious value. One day in the local grocery store she finds a pack of peelmeal candies prepared from natural fruit peel with high vitamin and mineral content .She happily buys it & gives it to Mansi who savours it fondly.Mr.Mahesh is a wedding caterer & his firm prepares food for 2500 people each day.A huge pile of fruit & vegetable peels has to be thrown away from his kitchen daily. He then enters into a contract whereby the PeeLMeal team collects all these scraps & even pays Mr.Mahesh for it.

Potential

Tons of fruit & vegetable scraps like peels, rinds & leaves generated in thousands of marriages, restaurants etc are simply dumped away into garbage. This so called WASTE is enough to fill the bellies of millions of people. PeeLMeal will thus develop this massive food resource into a one of its kind CUISINE providing an affordable, tasty & nutritious “fooding” option to the world. It will bring peel based food, which is largely unknown to the common people,in the mainstream, paving way for a whole new peel food industry.By serving food to the poor at low rates,PeeLMeal will also drastically reduce hunger caused by poverty. It will invest in research and employ chefs & nutritionists to create new & exciting peel food recipes to bring about a global revolution in the way we consume our veggies.

Business Case

PeeLMeal will be a private co. focused on making food from fruit & vegetable scraps including peels, skins, rinds, leaves & stems. The business will be divided into 2 segments.SEG.1–Meant for the poor,it will prepare healthy dishes to be served in sizeable quantities in slum areas at economical rates.Cheap raw material(scraps),economies of scale & low profit margin will keep prices low.SEG.2–Meant to serve the well off,it will prepare packaged food items like peel chips, candies, jams, jellies & pickles to be sold via grocery stores.Focus will be on quality, innovation, taste & nutrition. We will invest in research to create hundreds of new recipes made from veggie scraps & will get them patented. We will initially target Delhi, then expand to other indian states, the Asian & the African market.

Objectives:

  1. To develop peel based food into a unique & popular CUISINE & to prove to the masses that veggie leftovers are not only tasty but healthy too
  2. To feed thousands of poor people in & around Delhi at very affordable prices, thereby substantially reducing hunger & malnourishment
  3. To do all of this at a profit by simultaneously catering to the rich and give our investors a handsome return on their money.

Seema - our domestic maid

Seema works as a domestic help in my house. I offered him Pea Pod Peel dish. She actually found it really good and asked for some more of it to be packed for her so that she could take it and feed it to her children too...

Me n Ranjit with pea pod peel dish

Ranjit works as a peon in the nearby grocery store doing odd jobs like cleaning etc.I called him to my house and offered him Pea Pod peel dish without telling him what it was. He ate it happily and told me that whatever it was, it was tasty. He thought it were some sort of beans. he was really surprised to know that it had been made from pea pods...He said "MATAR KE CHHILKE TO LOG GAAY KO KHILA DETE HAIN (in Hindi) " which in English means " People usually feed pea pods to cows" !!!. And this is absolutely true!!!
