Cultivating Consumption

Cultivating Consumption in the Congo

Cultivation of plants for nutritional, medicinal, and hygienic use by employing smart farming techniques and alternative energy resources.

Use Case

Entering the greenhouse space, you are surrounded on every side by bins over flowing with plants of nearly every imaginable variety. You greet the people that you have worked alongside with for so many months, cultivating the plants you see here today. Breathing in and smiling to yourself, you here the happy shouts of children that have finally tasted the joy of play in the all too brief time since the complex was erected.

Potential

This concept has the potential to change the world in that it put food production into the hands of the people that really need it. It provides employment opportunities to people that are able and willing to work, but have few options in depressed economies. It teaches people valuable life skills and gives them the unparalleled reward of being able to earn what you have instead of being forced to rely on handouts. Having the children being able to provide supplemental power by doing what they naturally love keeps them out of other, less safe jobs and ensures that parents can work without worrying about where the kids are. It is a worthwhile family endeavor in the truest sense.

Business Case

The initial start-up cost is high, but the nature of this type of farming allows for a longer growing season and the high yield assures that associated debt could be paid off relatively quickly. Funds made after this point could be used towards growing the venture and repair old or broken equipment.

Objectives:

  1. People in need of food
  2. Able adults looking for employment
  3. Parents looking for a safe and convenient way to watch their children
