Welcome

I are really excited to join the challenge! Hello World!

Our Mission

Our mission is to help improve food sustainable techniques in order to minimize the amount of wasted food and help feed the people of the world

Our Background

The population of Earth is growing rapidly, and with the increase on the number of people, comes an increase on the number of mouths to feed. By 2020 the population of the population of Earth is set to reach an amazing 7.6 billion and by 2050, an alarming 9.5 billion people. Our resources are already becoming scarce now, with our population at 7 billion. How are we going to feed all of these people? We need to come up with solutions to solve our upcoming “Food Crisis”. Currently, people are innovating ways to create food, or use alternate resources, such as algae, as food. People are even innovating ways to 3D print food, but no one is talking about how we maintain the food. We need to be able to extend the life of these fresh foods in order to maintain enough food to feed the world. According to the “”Washington Post”, the United States, alone, wastes $165 Billion dollars in food each year. This is simply because the life cycle of these foods, once picked from their soil, is very short. Many farmers produce more crops than demand, and in turn end up having to trash what they do not sell. What if there was a way to extend the life on the produce, reducing the need for reducing or even eliminating the large quantity of spoiled goods? Save It does just that. I would like to create a device that helps extend the life of fresh produce. This device is a chamber for which all of the foods are stored. It adjusts the the right temperature and environment settings based on a machine learning algorithm. All of the data about the contents of this container will be sent to the cloud. All of the information about the contents are sent to both a web application and a mobile device so that everything can be monitored remotely. It will even give information about how much longer the life cycle of each food item has been extended. With the growing population of earth and many innovators trying to find solutions for new food resources, we need to find a way to sustain these foods and extend their freshness. Save It is to be one of those solutions. As we all continue in begin journeys, let us all virtually join hands, keep innovating, and Save the World!
