Potential

½ billion smallholder farmers are currently making LOSSES and most of them want to quit farming. At the same time, to avoid the food crises, there needs to be a 60% increase in food production to feed 9.6 billion people by 2050. The right package of technology and services can solve these problems comprehensively. Our “Greenhouse in a Box” is a set of lowcost technologies bundled with input linkage, production advisory and market linkage services that ensures a significant risk free income of $50/month to a smallholder by engaging as little as 1% of his/her land. It is an asset that ensures smallholders don’t fall into the poverty trap as easily as they do today. We are also increasing yield by 7x and creating more food which will eventually help bridge the food supply shortage globally.

Business Case

Kheyti’s primary source of revenue comes from sale of the greenhouse. This one time sale is done directly to the farmer where he/she pays only 10% of the cost upfront and is linked with bank loan for the rest. Our secondary sources of revenues come from recurring service fees for a) Input Linkages Commission paid by input companies b) Training paid by Govt. as a part of the national skill development mandate c) Market Support Commission collected from farmer upon sale of produce We therefore have multiple revenue streams from multiple sources. More importantly, our recurring service model provides consistent annual cash flow to the company. This full stack approach ensures that the farmer does not fail and can generate sustainable revenues.

Objectives:

  1. Increase technology adoption in agriculture: Technology helps organize the disjointed market information system that exists for farmers
  2. Get farmers out of poverty cycle: Controlled cultivation protects a farmer from various environmental risks and gets him out of poverty
  3. Increase production output to produce safe food: We increase crop yields by 7X to help bridge the global food supply shortage
