A process which we provide protein powder product by using single cell protein of yeasts and reducing wastes in the process.

Use Case

Y-cell is sold in powder form which comes handy with long shelf life, making it convenient for immediate use or dry storage for later usages. Food companies can use it as ingredients to fortify their products offerings. Consumers can buy it from retailers to use it both traditional and innovative cooking method or creating whole full meal dishes as it also contain good amount of carbohydrate, fat, minerals and vitamins. The powder is purely derived from nature and free from additives. It's all up to how you want to get your dose of protein! Y-cell can give vegetarians their daily protein requirements and can substitute whey protein for bodybuilder's beverages but most of all, for starving population due to high profile crisis.

Business Case

Depending on buying only one packet of a pure lyophilized strain, we'll be able to reactivate it in a lab, preserve some using slant agar method for re-generating as much as we want to cover a lifetime, using fermenters in a factory and then spray dryers to turn it into powder. Needing also sterilization equipment to sterile the wastes; collected from farmers, markets, restaurants and retailers, as a media for growth. Our business well start by manufacturing the Y-cell, and as supplier company, hoping in the near future to build our own factory, providing the world with not only the powder product but also developing new innovative dishes for healthier life with fortified protein meals. taking the yeasts to the next level!

Objectives:

  1. Reduce agricultural wastes.
  2. Create sustainable source of protein that can be accessible for billions of people worldwide.
  3. Change the known idea about yeasts. Yeast can do more to food production than just fermentation!

Why be the side-kick when u can be the HERO!!

Our Mission

Our main goal is to provide a new unique source of food in terms of using microorganisms rich in great quantities of nutrients such as proteins (mainly), vitamins, minerals. Our target will be the SCP which stands for the single cell protein that defines the yeast or fungal cell very rich in proteins, so does our team's name Y-CELL; Yeast cell. Many beneficial microbial cells that are used in many aspects in food industries for their biochemical transformations abilities, but many of them are being got rid of them. SCP is simple to isolate and to prepare it's media, they can be isolated through many ways in nature.

Our Background

We are ShamsEldin, Salma Gaber, Salwa Bakr, we do study Dairy and Food sciences and technology, the french department at faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University. We are interested in enhancing our intellectual thoughts, we are used to challenge, we have challenged at our faculty in producing a beverage product containing whey protein concentrate in the US dairy council competition, we achieved the first place by inventing "Dathévert". We have participated in this challenge to try to spot the light on a rare aspect of maintaining foods for people, we'd love to work in order to achieve something new.
