So, he prefers to prepare milkshake in MA powder and takes twice a day. 2. Fatima has just given birth to Mohamed. She has to breastfeed him. She knows the importance of protein-rich diet during feeding phase. So, she adds MA powder in most of the recipes for herself. 3. Riya is school going teen girl. Her mother is conscious about her growth and development. So, her mother adds 50% MA powder in Indian plate bread preparation (Chapati). Similarly, MA powder can be added or used for a preparation of various delicious recipes. And also, MA powder can be supplied to food industries.

Potential

The World is facing critical food issues and population growth rate is still going by the exponential way. Undernourishment is majorly associated with deficiency of protein, vitamin and minerals. From long ago, Microalgae used as food in a particular region of the world. But, did not exploit its potential as food fully. Major challenges, for using microalgae as a food source for human are poor digestibility and unacceptability (due to color, odour and taste). MA has improved the form of microalgae having good digestibility and acceptability and which is enriched source proteins, vitamin and minerals required for human. As the demand of MA will grow, promotes new cultivator to cultivate microalgae. Thus helps revolutionary alga-culture and opens new jobs. MA is a potential protein source.

Business Case

Supplement market statistics suggesting protein powder holds top selling supplement in coming years. MA is augmented with protein, vitamin and minerals. The business purpose is to provide nutritious food and get commercial benefit from it. Raw microalgae will be collected from cultivator and process through an innovative process developed by team Mother-algae to generate MA neutral flavour powder. MA powder can be added in many food recipes without affecting its sensory properties or can be taken with milk. MA powder will be launch in Asian market because more vegetarian population who have deficiencies of essential amino acid containing protein in their diet and also microalgae remains in their diet from long ago. Stakeholders will be cultivator, processing unit, retailers and consumers.

Objectives:

  1. Endorse: Bring awareness of microalgae as a dense source of nutritious food for human.
  2. Extend frontier: MA powder is prepared from a non-conventional source "microalgae". It will act as an additional source of food for human.

We are under the process of peer-review research publications. Thus, we have limitations of giving research finding data here….
So, we are giving only key highlights of a process developed by team-mother algae for transforming raw microalgae to MA powder.
a. This process is devoid of harsh practices which help to maintain the integrity of nutrition’s.
b. This process is scalable and simple to implement.
c. This process is commercially feasible compared to presently available processes.
d. This process does not use any harmful solvent or chemicals like hexane or acids.
e. This process takes less time.
f. This process is highly efficient which can concentrate microalgae proteins up to 90 % w/w.
g. Resultant powder of this process called as ‘MA Mother-Algae powder’ and it has better sensory acceptability (color, taste and odour) and higher digestibility.
H. MA powder can be incorporated in many food recipes. We have tested in following products and we found optimized the concentration of MA powder to be added in this products.
1. Tofu can be prepared with MA powder by adding up to 100 % w/w of MA powder.
2. Expandable and noddle’s can be prepared by adding 10-40 % w/w of MA powder.
3. Indian plate bread (Chapatti) can be prepared by adding up to 50 % w/w of MA powder.
4. And also, MA powder can be added up to 10 gm in 200 ml of milk without affecting much on sensory acceptance.

Our Background

We are the group of young researcher willing to contribute the world, in a fight against hunger. We are pursuing Ph.D. Tech. in various research areas from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India. We have various professional achievements such as many peer-review international publications, patents, winners of many competitions. Ashish Waghmare doing his academic research in an area of bioprocess technology. His title of the thesis is studies of microalgae and it's food applications. He spends his four years of research for bringing an idea of MA powder into reality. Sonali Gaikwad is doing her academic research in the area of food technology. She is expert in product development and testing. We have used her knowledge and practical skills in this concept. Rahul Rathod is highly skilled in extruder technology. He credited peer-review publication in his area of expertise. Nitin Jadhav awarded with many national academic competitions and credited few patents on his names. He is doing Ph.D. Tech. in the area of Pharmaceutical Science. He has a hand on expertise on analytical skills. Manoj Kamble is working in Chemical Engineering department for his Ph.D. thesis research. His area of interest is biochemical modeling and design.
