Salyne is a group of home salt & sugar meters to provide families with instant indicators of healthy amounts of salt and sugar in food.

Use Case

The amount of salt and sugar added to food, and therefore the amounts of salt and sugar that each individual becomes accustomed to varies a great deal. Yet, all human beings need only a specific amount of these useful ingredients in order to remain healthy. The Salyne range of food-grade meters enable user to gradually move towards healthy amounts of sugar and salt by providing a cheap, ultraportable meters that provide a real-time indication of the amount of sugar in food. Sue, at a lunch date can dip the tiny sensor in her food & know how much more salt & sugar she needs to consume for the remainder of the day off her smartphone.

Potential

With the Salyne range of disposable salt and sugar meters, individuals who prepare foods and beverages have an ever easy and instant way of determining whether or not they're adding healthy amounts of salt an sugar. The public health epidemic caused by consistently adding unhealthy amounts of salt and sugar to food cannot be over-emphasized. Our range of detachable kitchen meters that can be attached to pots, pans, plates and cups, chefs and mothers can rest assured they’re serving healthy amounts of sugar and salt in meals every time. The devices are attached to a smartphone and our app reads and interprets the results in a user-friendly manner. The platform also tracts daily salt & sugar consumption trends and recommends healthy options.

Business Case

The Salyne solution consists of a device that can be attached to any smartphone via 3.5mm audio jack, as well as an app platform that interprets results and provides recommendations for future meals. Our business based both on selling the small metering devices and annual subscription fees to our app. With more research, we hope to develop sensors for other critical food ingredients and contents like fats.

Objectives:

  1. Help the world reduce public health epidemics that develop because of overuse of salt and sugar.
  2. Help individuals stay healthy.
