The Social Business Project of Siramin Framework

The new face of future agriculture by leveraging the social impact

Siramin is a framework that transforms the undeveloped lands into agricultural areas, we also create an automatic watering for farmers.

Use Case

Alice has vacant land and did not know what to do with it. Then, she joined Siramin as a Land Partner by signing up to our website. Siramin Team will provide nutrients, seed, plants, etc and a Siramin Device. In the other side, Bob is a farmer, and he would like to join as a farmer partner. Since watering will be handled by Siramin device, so Bob can do other farming activities and focus on creating the best quality of harvest. One day, Charlie (a buyer) shop some vegetables through a mobile phone online. Charlie can choose the nearest location of our land partners to deliver him all the vegetables he wants. Then, the revenue will be shared for Siramin Team, Bob, and Alice.

Potential

The number of agricultural lands in Indonesia keep decreasing from 2003 to 2013 because of the land conversion. However, there are also many undeveloped lands, 35% in 2013, and lots of farmers don't have their own lands. In the other side, in 2030, there will be more than 293.000.000 of people live in Indonesia. This problem will soon create a new problem of food stocks. The amount of agricultural product should be increased by 60% from now. By connecting the landlords who don't know what to do about their lands, and farmers don't have lands, we would like to create a framework to reinforce the food distribution and stabilize the food security in Indonesia. This means we have a great market potential and a huge social impact.

Business Case

We will plant landlords’ undeveloped lands with vegetable because it can be harvested in a relatively short period. Then, the buyers can buy those online from our website or mobile app. They can choose the nearest location of our land partners, and our team will deliver the vegetables to their houses. Buyers will get many advantages: they don’t need to go to the market, they'll get fresher vegetables, and make social impact (10% of the payment will be used to develop this framework in other parts of Indonesia which are experiencing hunger). The rest 90% will be used to pay the farmers’ wages, land rent, and for reinvestment. We will try to get capital assistance from venture capitals and angel investors. Government support will soon be built to reach remote places in Indonesia.

Objectives:

  1. Undeveloped lands will become the productive ones and provide jobs for farmers who don't have lands
  2. Siramin Device will help farmers in watering their crops, they can use those 50% of their working hours to do other farming activities
  3. Other than get fresh vegetables, buyers and land partners will also contribute in developing the new agricultural lands in food crisis area

Land Conversion in Indonesia

Still discussing global food issue, this time I will talk about the reduction of agricultural land. you are wrong if it considers that this is not a big problem. Because in Indonesia alone, each year is not less than 110 000 hectares of paddy field switching function. The agricultural land conversion will lower food production, especially with the high population growth rate. Land conversion have two unfavorable impact in both economic and ecological impact. In terms of ecology, land conversion causes a decrease capacity of the land, and resulted in a decrease in water resources. From the economic side, land conversion is not only have an impact on agricultural production, but also resulting the loss of employment opportunities in rural areas, the loss of agricultural investment such as irrigation, infrastructure and others. For that we need to safe the world food security by helping owners of productive land, to cultivate the land.

Global Food Issue: Food Waste Becoming A Costly Issue in Utah

In Utah and the rest of the country, food waste is becoming a big issue. Buried food waste causes methane gas, and landfills should pay millions of dollars to manage that. One of the causes of food waste is the food chain. There is a lot of waste throughout the food chain from farms, to distributors, grocery stores, and consumer's kitchen.

It would be better if the food chain is cut. Therefore, consumer will get fresher foods, and food waste problem can be tackled.

Global Food Issue

http://www.un.org/en/globalissues/food/

This time I wrote about one of the articles I stumbled upon the internet. I think this article is one of the reasons we follow these challenges. every year the world are experiencing difficulties in feeding all its inhabitants. This article from the United Nations tell us how food influence other aspects of the world such as poverty, health and mortality. If we think about it, all this talk about food will not come to an end, unless we find the solution for all this global issues. What we need to find a solution to the problem of food crisis is to find out the cause.
The number one on my list is the culture. for example at this day, millions of people in the US spend so much food to celebrate thanksgiving. But, in other parts of the world millions of other people trying to scavenge food. The second cause is the fault of perspective, because poverty is not a protector from food-related disease, but a risk factor for it. And the last is a growing disconnect between food and people. Understanding food and where it comes from, is an essential knowledge nugget for a healthy society - and crucial for reviews those working in health. The last point is the reason we made this framework. We want to connecting food and people, so we can resolve this issue.

Work Space #3

We were trying to fix our Siramin device, we want it to as cool as possible so we really put a hard work in developing this framework.

Our Mission

By using “Siramin as an agricultural framework”, we would like to create the new face of future Indonesian agriculture. Our main concerns are empowering farmers and creating Indonesian food self-sufficiency, because the number of population in Indonesia is predicted to reach 290 million in 2030. With our Siramin framework, we will develop a new social business model by involving farmers, landlords, vegetable buyers, and of course the Siramin Team itself. The impacts are, farmers will get more income, undeveloped lands will become productive ones, and lots of people can plant their own vegetables. Eventually, Siramin Team will be able to contribute in stabilizing Indonesian food security and the development of its agriculture.

Our Background

Siramin is a group consists of students from various majors in Universitas Gadjah Mada: Information Technology, Food and Agricultural Technology, and Accounting students who are concerned about global food security issues. So that, we would like to share our ideas through this challenge to create the better world. We develop a device and framework to solve global food security problem starting from our country, Indonesia.
