Team Cook and Connect believes that each small action taken by millions of individuals when added together can make a big impact. After gauging the many obstacles to feeding the world’s growing population, we arrived at the two issues we want to focus on - hunger alleviation and reduction of food waste. Our solution is simple - we want to connect people who want to cook meals together. Some the advantages of cooking large meals are reducing cost of groceries by buying wholesale and bulk items, sharing of resources, diversifying the diet, saving energy, and lastly, it’s fun to cook and eat with people. Our app, CookIn, will help you find others around you who want to cook healthy meals but are unable to do so because of any combination of economic and lifestyle factors. According to FAO, a shift in diet that is less reliant on subsidized crops such as corn but instead embraces the use plant-based and local ingredients can have a significant impact on food sustainability and the health of the environment. By changing a few things on your grocery list, you can make a substantial contribution to improving the food production system. We want to empower every individual to do their part in changing the way the world produces and eats food.
We are a team of three out-of-box thinkers wanting to do our part to solve the world’s food crisis. As a team of comprised of a future food scientist, a chemical engineer and a policy maker, we each bring a unique perspective to the table. Together, we came up with that idea is that anyone – you or I – can change the world and have fun while doing it by undertaking something simple. Our team connected with each other over our passion for cooking and eating sustainably. This challenge will allow us to channel that passion encourage others to make decisions that change our food production and distribution system for the better.
