Connecting farmers and consumers through low cost business model

Use Case

In India, the farmers are disintegrated with small farms and are paid less for their produce. As they rely on traditional cultivation methodology and more pesticide usage, the yield and quality per hectare are less compared to developed countries. One-third of the food is wasted due to inefficient supply chain management and prices are high due to numerous middle agents. Farmers are not aware of the market price and demand. The farmers are not benefited for their hard work and they end up either in huge debt or to leave their occupation. The absence of latest farming techniques, agricultural equipment, market information, cold storage and efficient logistics have resulted in poor productivity and food losses.

Potential

- Portal with predictive algorithm to increase operational efficiency - Local farming around 400 kms radius with heavily populated city/town as main hub to reduce logistics cost and storage - Food waste collection from consumers to form compost (Government subsidy provided), which will be sold to farms and home gardens. - Transportation on top of buses using specialised package to avoid damage and decrease logistics cost - Limited warehouse usage as the product is on the move and shipped to customer - Usage of technology as means to educate farmers - Quality segregation for price differentiation Efficient package and delivery to consumer

Business Case

- Nominal charge collected from the farmers for the service we provide. - Sales of compost to the farmers and home gardens. - Delivery charge from the consumers. Possible operation cost reduction: -With economies of sales, reduce operational cost and increase profit margin. -Adaption of latest technology by the farmer will increase yield per acre and increase profit margin for the farmer. Future plan: - Create small scale cold storage with ‘Allwater panel’ (liquid engineering concept) to reduce energy consumption - Food Processing unit for increased product life. - Vertical farming integration.

Our Mission

We are management students with Agriculture and Technology background to address the supply chain issue in India and Africa. We want the change in the agriculture ecosystem for the farmers and consumers to be benefited. Together we want to use technology to address the existing supply chain issues in developing countries.

Our Background

Our primary focus is to help farmers and consumers in developing countries. Due to inefficient supply chain, one-third of the food is wasted and food price is high. We want to address this issue using our expertise. If we reduce the waste of food, there will be more food available for others to consume. Decrease in food price will benefit poor people. Our expertise are as follows: One of us has background in Agricultural Engineering and worked in supply chain sector in France. Other has Technology background and worked as IT consultant/developer for International organisations. We want to build a sustainable business model to address the supply chain issue and provide benefit to both farmers and consumers.
