Ins-Genius

A sustainable way to future food security!

Design products with molecular level ingredients from insects & 3D-printing, to create highly nutritional products, safe and appealing.

Use Case

Ins-Genius objective is to mainly utilize the nutrients from insects and design products which will be easily accepted by the consumer to overcome the barrier of perception people have on insects. Mira is a consumer who stopped eating meat but she missed her delicious burgers with patties and worried about her protein intake before the launch of Ins-Genius. Now with the presence of Ins-Genius delicious patties, she no more misses or worries. Eva is a little girl who comes from a poor family and suffers from protein - deficiency. With the presence of an affordable protein rich Ins-Genius cookies she is getting better and better and is in love with the taste of the cookies.

Potential

Having abundant protein, insects are one of the nutrient rich sources easily available. Increase in population, malnutrition and the difficulties in livestock production and usage stresses an urgent need for an alternative yet feasible idea. Ins-Genius provides with a solution by designing and producing products using innovative technology and nutrient ingredients from insects which can be easily accepted by consumers. This will be a promising solution for under developed and developing countries which is fighting against malnutrition. Ins-Genius is a great idea for eliminating malnutrition and provide consumer with a more safe, affordable and a healthy product.

Business Case

The need for addressing malnutrition, livestock problems and alternative protein source is increasing. Having many advantages such as easy farming , high nutrition and sustainability makes insect sector a demanding one. It is a booming industry growing at a very fast phase. Ins-Genius is planning to collobrate with already established companies which produce ingredients from insects and tailor them to our needs and create products which are carefully designed and safely produced. To also improve the economy of low income people it is planned to involve these local group people with the company to farm insects which will in turn be used to produce ingredients .

Objectives:

  1. To eliminate the malnutrition in the developing and under developed countries
  2. To effectively use the abundant nutrient source from the insects and eliminate the negative perception of eating insects
  3. To carefully design food products using advanced innovative technology like 3D printing and provide a safe and more acceptable food

Our Mission

Ins-Genius team's mission is to create nutrient dense products in particular to address the problem of protein deficiency in many developing countries by choosing potential nutrient rich source, i.e insects. Our idea is to integrate innovation and sustainability by using 3D printing technology to design and create new products that are affordable, acceptable and sustainable without compromising the important factor which is food safety. All of our strong desires to fight against food hunger made us start this new adventurous journey through TFF!

Our Background

Driven by the passion for food innovation, we want to bring about a constructive change by combining food innovation and fight against hunger. We are Food Science Graduate students from AgroParisTech, France and Lund University, Sweden specialising in Food Design and Packaging. Being a food designing students, what could be a better opportunity for us if we can use our skills to create something useful for 9 billion people! And this is why after several brainstorming sessions and interviewing some experts, we chose insects after understanding the huge potential they have. Our aim is to create solutions from insects- easy to produce, addressing nutritional needs and equally important, sustainable. Our expertise and our strong desires to fight hunger and address protein deficiency will be our key to success!
