Ag for Hire

LinkedIn for the ag labor market

A labor recruitment application that improves farmers’ access to seasonal and specialty labor, and that empowers farm laborers.

Use Case

Sarah is a vineyard owner in need of extra labor during this upcoming fall harvest. She visits Ag for Hire on her desktop and creates a request for two general laborers as well as one worker who has experience and training with heavy machinery. Sarah will also use Ag for Hire to streamline the hiring process of these seasonal employees and relay safety information with the laborers currently staffed in her vineyard. Juan is an active user of Ag for Hire with 7 years’ experience working with various forms of heavy machinery. On his newsfeed he see’s Sarah’s post for a seasonal position on her vineyard. He is able to apply with one click via Ag for Hire and is able to send additional credentials to Sarah via the communication platform.

Potential

With Ag for Hire, the seasonal labor market will benefit from an unprecedented ease of access to labor. Ag for Hire is a scalable replacement for the current contract labor marketplace and has the potential to spread virally across the US, as well as, the world. With this access, farmer owners have the potential to save 5-10% on their annual expenses. Additionally, new opportunities will arise for other entities, such as health & safety agencies, to interact with our users. Finally, companies developing future technologies such as IOT sensors (Internet of things) and specialty drones will have a preexisting marketplace to easily advertise and sell their products and services, allowing for deeper market penetration and faster adoption of emerging technologies.

Business Case

We provide value to both farmers and farm laborers. Labor accounts for up to 40% of a farmer’s annual expenses and is often scarce which causes a large number of crops to go un-harvested every year. Unlike typical contractors who up-charge 30-50%, Ag for Hire only charges 15% on successful labor matches. With Ag for Hire, farm laborers will now be able to advertise specialty skills that they possess as well as negotiate fair wages that adequately reflect their level of experience. With our powerful system, farmers will now increase the yield of their harvest, generating more revenue while lowering their expenses. As we grow, Ag for Hire has the potential to expand into other seasonal and specialty labor markets.

Objectives:

  1. Reduce the amount of un-harvested crops due to inability to discover labor
  2. Increase the mean wage received by farm laborers who use our application
  3. Lower the annual cost of labor for farmer owners who utilize our service

Welcome Dhrub Das

Ag for Hire has enlisted the help of Dhrub Das as our new lead developer!

Dhrub: My name is Dhrubajyoti Das. My journey in web development started as a 12 year old, creating a website for my dad's company. His friends and customers started calling him just to appreciate his website. That's when I discovered my talent. Coming from a family with an entrepreneurship spirit, I started approaching local businesses making simple splash pages and slowly progressing to making complex ecommerce applications. I am currently an undergrad student at UC Davis.

I'm excited to join AgForHire as their lead developer to help the team realize their novel dream of solving a major problem in a largely ignored industry.
