We encourage the adoption of these practices, taking into account how current needs, contributing to a secure future.

Use Case

Our concept aims to get from small producers to researchers, showing the ability to produce various food in the same place.

Potential

Our team is formed by four engaged students from Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" (ESALQ / USP). Arnold, John and Luke are students of Forestry and Gabriela is Biology. In addition to the grade school, work on projects and internships in various areas such as forestry, forest restoration, environmental education, forest measurement, among others. We believe such important activities for our training not only professional but also personal. Through a common ideal, we propose to join forces and expertise to demonstrate to the world as a forest system can add value to economic development and optimization of existing agricultural systems. Making forests and food for a new future !

Business Case

The Food Forest Group proposes the dissemination of techniques of management of the agroforestry systems through demonstration units in tropical regions as an alternative of sustainable production adaptable to family agriculture generating income and conserving natural resources. The area production model will be for people willing to adopt the system and will serve as educational and technological Center for both the academic community and producers in General empowering farmers through initial and continuous training whereas produce food to 9 billion people by 2050, requires social, environmental and economic favorable conditions.

Objectives:

  1. Encourage the adoption of practices of partnership of productions.
  2. Optimize production by area of soil.
  3. Improve the climatic conditions.

Making forests and food for a new future !

Our Background

One of the great challenges of agriculture is the increasing food demand of the planet facing the exponential decrease in resources available for production. Thinking about this problem, four Brazilian students (ESALQ / USP) saw in the forest environment, a great opportunity to combine the conservation of natural resources and agricultural production to an environmentally appropriate production system. The Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) are characterized by the integration of the agricultural system with the arboreal component in many different ways. In this sense these systems have shown an important alternative to optimize the use of land. Moreover, the SAF promote diversification of income, improvement in thermal comfort, providing nutrients to the soil, reducing evaporation, increased infiltration of groundwater, decreased cost of production among other benefits. "Forests of food" is a project that aims to develop the concept of forest integration exploiting their ability to provide for sustainable and food safely.
