Automatized, scalable and interactive system to grow healthy food without the need of fertile soil.

Use Case

Our target users are working professionals (with no experience in farming) living in dense urban areas and are looking for ways to access healthy food locally. As active users of services such as AirBnb and Uber, they often take part to social and sharing-economy activities. Concerned about the environment preservation, they want to integrate innovative and sustainable solutions to their lifestyle, being recognized as promoters of change. The Living Farming Tree is a stand-alone modular solution that allows its users to adapt the system in their households or businesses without the need of complex installations, large spaces, fertile land nor sunlight. It is an easy-to-use growing system that allows the efficient, high yield and rapid production of vegetables all-year round.

Potential

Our concept joins both the hardware to grow food and the software to run it, as well as an online platform where users can interact with other growers in their area. Hexagro Urban Farming Network, is a collaborative production online-platform that will increase the accessibility of healthy food in cities and decrease the environmental impact of transportation and preservation of food. Furthermore, it will allow Hexagro growers to sell their production to consumers that don’t own the farming system. This community will help creating economic opportunities for urban farmers and will represent the basis for a circular economy model that will limit the generation of waste and foster its recycling processes.

Business Case

Our business model is based as follow: - B2B: Farming systems sold including a contract of maintenance and supply (of seedlings and nutrients) service. - B2C: Farming systems sold with the possibility to pair them with a "Amazon prime" style contract of maintenance and supply services. - Hexagro Urban Farming Network: Individual users, farmers and businesses can interact each other and have access to a dedicated local market of food, seedlings, nutrients, services and much more.

Objectives:

  1. Manufacturing of easy-to-use, full modular, high-yield and scalable farming systems for indoor environments.
  2. Developing of Hexagro Urban Farming Network for collaborative farming in urban areas to improve accesibility to healthy food.
  3. Educating and advocating for a healthier lifestyle and creating awareness about the impact of food industry in the environment.

Our mission is to deliver socio-economic and sustainable value in the current food system by:
1) providing automatized, scalable, high-yield organic farming systems;
2) increasing the accessibility of healthy food to consumers in cities;
3) creating economic opportunities for urban farmers through a Collaborative Distribution Platform (Hexagro Urban Farming Network);
4) protecting the environment by reducing water waste, energy and pesticide consumption for the production, distribution and consumption of food;
5) generating social benefits partnering with nonprofit organizations, community gardens, educational institutions, research centers, needed emergency areas, etc.
