Creed is catfish feed made from food waste to meet the high demand of these high protein food source and also reduce organic waste.

Use Case

Many catfish farms in the world, especially in Indonesia was not able to meet the increased demand of catfish every year, whereas catfish is one of the high-protein food source. This supply shortage due to the high price of catfish feed. Therefore, we made creed, catfish feed, derived from food waste which still nutritious. According to FAO, catfish is omnivorous fish that could eat any organic material from plants or animals and that 1/3 of the world's food production (1,3 billon tonnes) gets wasted. With Creed, catfish food becomes cheaper and farmer profits increased, so that catfish demand can be met. In addition, the leftovers can be used to reduce the impact of organic waste.

Potential

Creed, Clarias (Catfish) feed is an innovation for catfish food that really potential to be developed in developing countries which will increase the production of catfish. When most of fish feed company make pellets from new raw materials that expensive, we prefer to collect free leftovers food from hotels and restaurants and it would reduce their food waste. We will grind and process it into catfish feed that extremely cheap. One restaurant produces an average of 10 kg of the food waste per day that would be obtained into 7 kg creed at a price of USD 0.7 per kilogram cheaper than regular pellets USD 1.5. This cheap pellet price will help small scale catfish farmers to develop their business.

Business Case

The production of fish feed could be a promising business opportunities considering the increasing demand for fish. With a system of taking leftovers from hotels and restaurants will give us free raw materials and reduce our production costs. We will cooperate with small company to process them into pellets then distributed through online and retail. In addition we will also provide socialization to the community to develop a catfish business where creed given as their feed. Because catfish is very adaptable with any environment so that it can be easily farmed. Then the profit of catfish sales will be shared with profit sharing system.

Objectives:

  1. Utilize food waste that has bad impact to environment as free raw material of catfish feed
  2. Make an affordable catfish feed that suitable for developing catfish farms

Insight + Insight + Insight

Our three new insights:
1. Catfish is one of the protein food source that also has high nutritional value such as vitamin B12 and essential fatty acid (omega 3 and omega 6). Catfish is very adaptable fish, known as omnivore that can eat any organic feed.
2. The demand of cafish incerases every year. But the feed is very expensive. 95% of catfish farming cost goes to feed cost.
3. One third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year, gets lost or wasted. It’s approximately 1.3 billion tonnes and would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people in the world. It could be a free raw material for producing a catfish feed so that it would also decrease our feed production cost. In addition, using food waste as our raw material can reduce the impact of organic waste in the environment.
