Rooted aims to introduce and normalize the consumption of algae, in the form of familiar snack foods, as a nutritious and sustainable alternative to animal protein.
According to the Nature Climate Change commission, the Earth will run out of food by 2050 if animal products continue to be consumed at the current rate of consumption. Approximately 26 percent of the world’s land is used for grazing livestock, 33 percent is allocated for growing feed, and 23 percent of the world's freshwater supplies are used for livestock feed. Livestock production is also responsible for approximately 18 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. It is evident that an urgent concern lies in our planet’s continued ability to feed an exploding population with animal-based foods while agricultural resources grow scarcer. The solution? Algae: a sustainable superfood that has yet to be widely introduced into the food industry. We at Rooted believe that algae is truly the "future of food".
