We named our team is Cahaya Penerang. Cahaya Penerang Team consisted of five students from a different educational background which are from the field of agriculture, food technology, management, and electrical engineering. We studied in Malang, Indonesia. Moreover, we are concern about the development issue which happen in our region and in the world. We decide to join TFF Challenge because we want to create an alternative food innovation of the fundamental problems which happen in our country. Afterward, we believe that there are still amount of alternative food in another area which has not maximized its function. Thus, Cahaya Penerang Team provide an alternative food innovation as the solutions which can reduce food crisis in Indonesia and of course we believe our idea can be implemented throughout the world.
Cahaya Penerang Team consisted of student who concern about the issue in their own region and the world. Not only concern and know about the problem but also try to find the best solution that can be implemented and solve the problem. Food is the main issue we noticed recently. Until 2016, soybean crisis is still existing in Indonesia. The soybean supply in Indonesia is never encounter its amount of market’s demand, so that Indonesia has to Import to fulfill its need. Soy can grow well up to an altitude of 1.500 meters above sea level. Optimal germination occurs at a temperature of 30oC. Then, soy needs solar radiation for about 12 hours / day and rainfall between 100-200 mm / month. From the temperature, solar radiation and rainfall, Indonesia is the appropriate country that have all of the things soy need. Moreover, government in Indonesia already give all the effort by make a policy to farmer to plant soy. Nonetheless, the productivity of soy in Indonesia is never maximal. With the TFF Challenge, we are from Cahaya Penerang Team will introduce to the world that Kara Benguk or Mucuna pruriens which grows wild in tropical climates country can be used as an alternative to substitute soy. Mucuna pruriens is originated from southeast and south Asia, and also flourish in Indonesia that have tropical climate. There are so many benefits from this legume cover crop, specifically for protect the soil from erosion and runoff , build up the soil nutrient to improve soil quality, high protein feed for livestock and an alternative food for solving the soy crisis in Indonesia. Mucuna pruriens is one of the medicinal plants because it contains high concentrations of LDOPA, an unusual non-protein amino acid and a direct precursor to the neuro-transmitter dopamine, an important brain chemical Involved in mood, sexuality, movement and others. Because of that we want to make a yogurt from mucuna pruriens. The benefit of this yogurt is improving people healthiness with low cost. At last, we believe Mucuna pruriens can get over the soy crisis in Indonesia.
