Impackt Farm 2.0

From flat-pack to impact!

Providing refugees & underserved communities with affordable vertical farms & creating a marketplace for their surplus produce

Use Case

A refugee family receives an Impackt Farm in a package that consists of 10 3D printed towers that was financed either by Brussels’ government, a local NGO or a crowdfunding project. The farm can be quickly set up in under 3 hours. Due to the help of our educational partners and a graphic manual, setup and maintenance is simple for anyone to do. To start off production, they plant quick growing but high value crops like lettuce, that they can start selling after one month back to Impackt. We will package the produce and sell it in the market under Impackt Farm’s social brand. A portion of the profits will go back to the family and the rest will be used to sustain the social enterprise. Meanwhile they will be also producing nutritious plants that will sustain them in the long run.

Potential

Installing Impackt Hubs in the communities in need will enable individuals at societal disadvantage with the ability to participate in an economic activity. It would help to restore the rights and dignity of these individuals by providing them with access to food, educational stimuli, and income/bargaining power. In return, they will sell their produce in the markets and supermarkets under the “Impackt farm” brand that will make it a meaningful contribution to the society and global food security. As our vertical farms are flat-pack, they can fit into a launch box and can be 3D printed, freelance farmers can spark anywhere in the world regardless of their geographical location. This will make the potential impact from local to global and help us feed 9bn people by 2050.

Business Case

We generate revenue by selling the flatpack vertical farms to government & private companies, which can be sold for an affordable price since it will be produced using 3D printer, making the production easy to scale globally. Profit will also be generated by creating the “Impackt Farm” social brand under which farmers can sell the food to retailers (similar to Fairtrade branding). Lastly, we will provide Impackt farm’s designs to universities and schools and create an open sourced platform as a source of innovation to strengthen the brand and create better proposals for implementation. Unlike the bulky and expensive vertical farms existing nowadays, we will be able to create a product that would enter any home, anywhere in the world.

Objectives:

  1. Provide individuals with access to food and opportunities for economic activity in the community through distribution of Impackt farms
  2. Implement a marketplace and infrastructure for the sale of produce under a “Impackt Farm” sustainable and social brand
  3. Create an open sourced platform using universities, schools and the field research data to develop more efficient vertical farming solutions
