Our concept is to make a blend of biochar, nano-fertilizers and human urine which increases the yield and nutritional value of food.

Use Case

Our Concept includes a user friendly fertilizer named NEP fertilizer as it is synthesized using only organic elements. It is healthy for consumers because they can get more nutrition using foods flourished through NEP. It is cheap for farmers and the consumers who consume such foods.Consumers can apply this technique to their own gardens just by digging a small pit to prepare biochar. Farmers will be cherished to utilize the waste plants litters of their own farmlands to prepare the biochar. Human urine is their own excreta which can be used as a valuable product to their farmlands. The only external thing to be added is nano fertilizer. The overall process is convenient and can be implemented to obtain the desired yield in case of specific plants.

Potential

This concept is a very feasible process and can be applied even to poor countries because of the less cost. NEP fertilizer is a health conscious fertilizer which enhances and promotes the yield as well as nutrition. World can use this wise farming method to produce food for themselves without compromising their nutritional diet. This concept focuses on increasing the nutritional uptake of nitrogen and phosphorous for plants. It enhances the metabolic activities of plants which helps them to increase production by themselves because nano particles have ability to enter the cells of plants. This fertilizer is applicable not only to crops but also to fruits and vegetables. If this technique is applied to all the agricultural lands, then there will be no shortage of food for starving people.

Business Case

Our concept includes providing awareness to the farmers about techniques to use this simple technology through social advertisements. This will help them to produce and use their self made fertilizer in their own lands. The only investment is the little investment in purchasing the suitable nano fertilizer for a particular crop. The product will be popular in the market because of its wide applications to almost all kinds of plants. The other investment is the initial investment to construct a pipeline which joins the passage of urine in the toilet to the farmlands. On the other side, it saves the cost of about 4000 gallons of per person each year which is wasted to flush human urine. The overall process is cost effective and advantageous for all.

  2. To increase the nutritional content without harming the health of farmers and consumers.
  3. To increase the fertility of land thus reducing the cost of environmental protection.

Food will never finish

The main theme of our project is to use innovation in the agricultural lands in the form of a self purposed fertilizer named Nep Fertilizer. It will be made up of biochar added to nanofertilizer with human urine loaded to it. This magical blend acts a carrier of other fertilizers. This blend should be applied to the root zone of plants at the upper layer of soil. Each of the 3 components is itself an awesome substance for promotion and growth of plants. This wise fertilizer will act smartly and raise the yield enormously by applying different techniques. Some will increase the photosynthetic ability of plants, some will enhance the electron transport rate and some will promote fertilization in plants which further leads to extreme growth of desired plant product. Besides this, it also increases the nutrient efficiency of plants without harming the human health and increase absorption capacity of fertilizers. Other benefits are to reduces the cost of environmental protection and support the ecosystem services. The sanitized human urine utilization saves almost 4000 gallons of clean water each year per person for harvesting agricultural lands which would otherwise be wasted in flushing the urine in toilets. Yield from 20% to 400% can be increased by using this NEP fertilizer. All kinds of major and minor nutrients can be supplied to the cells of plants using nanoporous materials. This will shockingly increase the yield to a great extent in all kinds of crops, vegetables and fruits.

Our Mission

Our team consists of three members: two from chemistry and one from microbiology. Our major focus will be to create solution for feeding people without compromising the nutrients efficiency as seen in currently available genetically modified food. We will be focusing on the advanced technology to farming which is easy and feasible to apply. Our objective is to increase the productivity and availability of the produced food. We are interested in increasing the yield of all kinds of food which includes crops, fruits and vegetables rather than being limited to a particular kind of food. We have designed a method by which we can get food with greater nutritional content without any kind of risk to human health. We desire better crops, with better nutritional content which persists forever.

Our Background

We have three members in our team. We are participating because we care about this planet as planet is our home and its our duty to adress its problems. We belong from the developing country like Nepal where you don't have to go far to see hunger and starvation. Also children begging for just a cent in roads was a major eye opener. This was the case in the capital city and rural areas are affected more severely from the food shortage. Nepal is an agricultural country where more than half of the population depend on agriculture as their main profession. So, to make the food available for the 9 billion people is our major concern. Although we are poor country, everyday tons of food are going waste because there is no effective management. This problem acute in not only Nepal but many other developing countries. We therefore feel delighted to be a part of a TFF Challenge and contribute to the globe for solving the trouble of food shortage in the near future.
