Use Case

First of all, the customer will purchase the FooDrone. The user of the drone will initially be us the experts who will design the Agroforestry system to his/her landscape. After that the drone will gather the key landscape characteristics and send it to our computer. Furthermore, we will design an Agroforestry system according to its characteristics and program the drone to execute the end design. The drone will drop the seeds and plants to its specific demographical plots. Secondly, the customer can decide to upgrade his purchase package by keeping the drone with him/her for future usage. There will be training sessions for the customer on how to use effectively the drone so they can scan, map and monitor the farm in order to direct the work force and optimise the daily farm activities

Potential

FooDrone will change the world by providing an essential tool for farmers and governments to introduce a new agricultural system in which efficiency, sustainability and profitability are key. Climate change is putting a lot of pressure on our current policy decisions, and Agroforestry systems provides all the ecosystem services that can help reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Furthermore, using drones to scale up Agroforestry systems is an efficient way of sustaining our natural resources and grow a large amount of food at the same time. This technology will ensure a highly efficient way of proofing that agriculture can be more sustainable even on a large-scale approach. FooDrone will not only feed 9 billion people by 2050, but do it in a sustainable way.

Business Case

FooDrone Global: World-wide enterprise that owns the idea of the new agroforestry system. This company will be a social enterprise where most likely multiple organisations will be involved in to prove viability of the concept in the first place.The associating companies and organisations can differ per country, and will be working with the country departments to develop local projects. The countries represent examples of what could be countries we are going to work with in the future. The projects can vary between large scale agroforestry systems, smallholder farmers, governmental assignments against soil degradation, and whatever the future holds. This depends on how fast the company develops.

Objectives:

  1. People: Create jobs in the agricultural sector. Agroforestry systems help farmers to have a better chance to start a profitable business.
  2. Planet: We strive to fight climate change while generating abundance of food, by developing an innovative sustainable agricultural system.
  3. Profit: Inclusive business, where social, environmental goals and making profit are part of our core business.

Our Mission

Our mission is implementing technology to produce food in a sustainable and efficient way while tackling climate change. Our primary goal is to develop a large-scale Agroforestry system in which drones will have a significant role to increase its scale and productivity. By making use of intelligent drones we can actively scan, map and monitor the farm in order to efficiently direct the work force and optimise the daily farm activities. Also, the drones will be programmed to design an agroforestry format according to specific landscape characteristics. The drones will collect the data in an application for future improvements. Our aim is at providing enough food for the growing world population, while preserving our planet and generating a long-term profitable business opportunity for farmers. Furthermore, the concept will be tested in the surroundings of the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil and proof that it will increase the biodiversity, the soil fertility, the quality of the water and reduce the amount of CO2 from the atmosphere while providing abundance of food to the market.

Our Background

Our team is participating in the TFF challenge because we believe that we can feed not only 9 billion people by 2050, but we can do it in a sustainable way. But in order to so, we need to use technology in favour of nature and food production. The abundance of food that an Agroforestry system can offer will allow farmers to generate a long-term oriented profitable business. In order to feed the growing world population we need to combine sustainable agriculture with nature conservation in order to keep our natural resources for future generations. Our team is an internationally orientated team with different areas of expertise. One of the team members comes from Brazil and the rest of the team comes from The Netherlands. We all got different skills in which complement each other to make the idea of fooDrone complete. Felipe comes from Brazil and has experience with Agroforestry systems in Brazil, Africa and the Netherlands. Feline is a Dutch student of Applied Biology and has knowledge on Plant Science. Sjoerd is a Dutch student of Environmental Sciences and is an expert on drones. Collin is a Dutch student who visualises future business opportunities that includes sustainable solutions.
