The world population is expected to be at least 9 billion people in 2050. A question appears “How on earth are we going to feed them without increasing production?”. The demand for food will likely outpace food production if the current rate of output remains the same. Further than that, we believe increasing food production is not the only way to feed people in the future, optimizing food consumption by reducing food loss and creatively utilizing unavoidable food waste are two main alternative solutions. Global quantitative food losses and waste per year are roughly 30% for cereals, 40-50% for root crops, fruits and vegetables, 20% for oil seeds, meat and dairy plus 35% for fish. FAO stated that reducing food losses by just 25% would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people in the world. So , we as an agro-complex students with different major have the same perspective on solving the global issues by managing the food loss. Then, BE-Coat stands for Banana Edible Coating. We carry a mission which utilizing unavoidable food waste like banana peel is beneficial to reduce the food loss by recycling it into edible coating.
Witnessing the on the ground facts of exacerbated food security and the amount of hungry people in the world has triggered us to become the part of global challenge's solution. By joining TFF Challenge we believed that this would be a great chance to share our ideas with the world-class mentor in creating the solution of food security.
