Creating Abundance with Simplicity

Use of urban rooftops for farming, and sustaining it with an easy to use mobile application based marketplace.

Use Case

Our application mostly involves urban households, who often are exploited when it comes to purchasing of vegetables. Consumers are often charged a fairly higher price for their vegetables, and affording them becomes a struggle. Moreover, even the quality of the vegetables they use lacks freshness, and is adulterated. Finally, while many users may be inclined towards using rooftop farming themselves, they often end up in a situation where they are unable to sell their surplus produce, leading to wastage of resources. Going to a marketplace regularly, gets tiring and chaotic, and purchase of a basic resource such as food should be simple and convenient. Fresh and cheap vegetables should be available right at our door step.

Potential

Considering the shortage of food the world faces, increasing food production becomes imperative. Our solution will immensely increase the supply by utilizing the previously unused resources like rooftops, further enhanced by a technological marketplace making shopping convenient. With efficient utilization of the resources, we ensure that cost will reduce significantly making vegetables more affordable. This enables access of food to most of the urban population from their own rooftop. Green Kart application will emerge as a new, healthy and cheaper option to conventional marketplaces. As the operation increases on a global scale, such continued effort will significantly reduce hunger. We aim for a future where by 2050 every new roof built be developed by Green Kart.

Business Case

Our urban user base is already inclined towards roof top farming, We are providing them the easiest way to set those farms, all by clicking a button on our application. We will do rounds of online advertisement of our dual capability of leasing roofs and marketplace to enter the market. After hiring a set of rooftops we will set the farms, with every rooftop having a partially automated setup which will only require weekly inspection and yielding once in every 3 months, which then will be stored in nearby ware houses. Until delivered to consumers in a particular locality at one of the three time slots they can choose using the application. With roof top farming we will be able to significantly reduce the cost and with our quality vegetables we will win the loyalty of our user base.

Objectives:

  1. By 2030 every urban household in INDIA uses the Green Kart application. And every new roof built will have a green kart rooftop.
  2. Promoting a culture of roof top farming where the Green Kart application emerges as a solution to its sustainability.
  3. Significantly contribute to increase in the food supply, making food affordable to all.

Our Mission

We are a bunch of enthusiastic undergraduate engineers from different technical departments. The idea of tackling global food problem excites us the most. All of us share a strong belief that any problem solved in a manner that the solution is complex to apply, limits the scope of the solution. We also believe that the easiest way to tackle the food issue is by increasing the net food produced. And so our mission is creating abundance with simplicity. With a model that will sustain the roof top farming and a marketplace which will soon become an alternative to the traditional vegetable markets, and all of this just a click away using an extremely simple mobile application, we aim to impact the lives and become a new alternative altogether.
