A solution for healthy soil healthy food and sustainable agriculture

By Biosoilution, a bio-organic fertilizer using organic waste and benefical microorganism can keep healthy soil to produce healthy food.

Use Case

In Indonesia, people start aware about their food. They are looking for healthy food that is produced by organic farming. But, it is not enough supply because of just a few farmers use organic input. In other hand farmers are prefer for using an-organic input for increasing their crop. It makes a problem with the soil, water, pest and disease. The soil fertility decreased and either the crop. It needs a solution.Biosoilution will provide organic matter, nutrients, and some benefit microorganism those are tricoderma and azotobacter that will support plan growth and protect plant from disease. We will sell bio-organic fertilizer for plant growth and soil management and powder contain of specific microorganism for plant protection to farmers and gardener.

Potential

Bio-organic fertilizer made from compost tea that has good impact for soil and plant is rare in Indonesia. Indonesia is agricultural country which is almost of its people life in agriculture field. The problem is about farmers habit by using an-organic input. An-organic input such a fertilizer and pesticide is expensive and have negatives impact for agroecosystem. So, we think about the solution to take care of sustainable agriculture that produce healthy food and can save soil health. We will work with Bank Sampah/Garbage Bank to collect organic waste and buy it for making compost. The benefit microorganism we will use tricoderma and azotobacter, also we will add the specific microorganism which is explored in Lumpur Sidoarjo to specific plant for protection.

Business Case

Biosoilution will be modeled as greenpreneur with farmers involvement. We will make collaboration with Bank Sampah/Garbage Bank a social movement for manage garbage in Malang to collect organic waste for making compost. The compost will be processed to compost tea that is rich in nutrients and microbial populations that are beneficial to soil and plants. This solution is a environmentally friendly for food security and sustainable agriculture. In short term we will use our chance to explore about many benefit microorganism, in medium-term we will test our idea for some plant, and long-term goals we will have our idea becomes a bio-organic fertilizer that is using by farmers.

Objectives:

  1. Healthy soil : It is the basis of food in agriculture to boost production with environmentally friendly technology.
  2. Healthy food : Organic farming take place of healthy food and boost local economy for farmers welfare.
  3. Sustainable agriculture : Combating and adapting climate change to end hunger and achieve food security.

Biosoilution team is consist of 5 students of agriculture faculty Brawijaya University. They are Ika Nurul Febrianti, Like Mutiarsti, Luqman Bassam Ramadhani, Nabillah Marhah, and Muhammad Esa Nur Islami. Ika and Esa are students in agroecotechnology. Like, Dhani and Billah are in agribusiness.

Our Mission

We are agriculture students who want to be a part of global food security by increasing healthy soil through smart organic matter input. Biosoilution is an innovative soil treatment solution for good soil, water and plant life by increasing soil organic inputs through compost tea. It uses organic waste and biological agents to transform organic residue/waste into high-quality fertilizer as an alternative solution for produce more food in healthy soil. We believe that healthy soil can produce healthy food to feed more than 9 billion people by 2050.

Our Background

Soil is a reversible resource but it can be depleted. Because of that FAO said that soil is a non-renewable resource. It is the basis of food, feed, fuel, ecosystem-service and medicines. In agriculture, soil has important function to support plant growth. But many case in Indonesia, soil fertility is decrease. It causes low food production and quality. The problem is in farmers habit by using an-organic fertilize for increase the productivity. That statement is practically right, but only in a short term. Its negative effect more dangerous that its benefit. An-organic fertilize can decrease soil fertility. Decreasing soil fertility means not healthy. Because of that, take care of soil to keep it healthy by using compost tea is our focus. Compost tea is a liquid derived from the leaching of compost rich in nutrients and microbial populations (bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes) that are beneficial to plants. Compost tea has multiple benefits and is a natural fertilizer products that are environmentally friendly, able to suppress the growth of pathogenic bacteria present in the compost. As an organic fertilizer compost tea can also serve as an organic pesticide, because compost tea is able to restore soil fertility naturally and improve plant resistance to pests and diseases. Differences compost tea and compost extracts are in compost extract, focuses on improving the nutritional content of the soil, while the compost tea applications in addition to improving soil nutrient content can also increase the population of beneficial microorganisms to improve soil fertility. Applications on the leaves, can suppress the development of disease-causing pathogens leaves. The important thing to consider in making and using compost tea are the ingredients used in the manufacture of compost tea must be of quality materials, the supply of oxygen is sufficient to stimulate microbial growth aerobic compost tea high efficient if used as soon as possible after it is produced.
