The FArmour

A One Stop Marketplace for all Farmers

An App and IVR based E-commerce platform for buying and selling of agricultural products incorporating the new Farmer-to-Customer model.

Use Case

Ranjith is a farmer who wishes to sell his produce and livestock online through the FArmour. He logs on to the FArmour Partner App and lists the products he wants to sell by giving the details such as price, quality, quantity and then uploads the images of his produce. He also opts to store the produce at the nearest warehouse or cold storage. He is upgrading to the latest methods in farming. Hence, logs on to the FArmour App to buy farm tools, machinery, seeds, fertilizers and insurance from agriculture sector companies which have posted their products and services with the FArmour Partner App. Anjali uses FArmour app to buy farm-fresh vegetables, fruits and meat at far lesser price directly from Ranjith. Anjali also invests in Ranjith's farm as she is impressed by the quality.

Potential

The FArmour venture is inspired by the huge success stories of E-commerce giants like Amazon and eBay and the void of any such entities in the Indian agricultural sector. The FArmour is determined to end the woes of farmers caused by the injustice at Indian APMCs. The FArmour is the first of its kind app which offers a 360 degree solution for farmers. Through The FArmour, the farmers can increase their profits up to 10 to 15% which will attract the farmers to sell with us. With the increasing number of farmers using smart phones and internet access we can be a dominant force in the yet to be conquered Indian agricultural market. The farmers who do not have smart phones are also covered under our IVR over a toll-free number which offers all the FArmour's services.

Business Case

The FArmour works with a principle of truly benefiting the farmers. The FArmour creates a WIN-WIN situation for all the actors in the Business Model. Subscription Fee: Free for farmers till the end of 2019 and later it will be 2$(~150rs) per month. Referral Fee: We understand the importance of Word-of-Mouth hence we offer a referral fee bonus of 5% to 10%. Storage Fee: With the option of storing their products in our chain of Warehouses and Cold storage, the farmers can avail this facility with a mere 0.10$ per cubic meter. Shipping Fee: 0.30 to 0.35$ for 500 grams. Packaging Fee: 0.15 to 0.20$ per unit. The low overall cost borne by the farmers to sell with us is far less and way more transparent than what goes on at Indian APMCs (Agriculture Produce Market Corporation).

Objectives:

  1. Create a direct chain of Supply and Demand between the farmers and consumers using our Farmer-to-Customer Model to help both.
  2. Arming the farmers with Financial Security and Technology through Investment and Insurance from Companies and the Community.
  3. Be a one stop marketplace for farmers to not only sell their produce but also to buy their farm requirements such as seeds, fertilizers Etc.

We met Professor Naveen Malvade who gave us some important advice and feedback on the FArmour App. His feedback is as follows:
1) Include a filter in your App which enables the buyers to search for sellers in the nearest location and also facilitates the faster delivery of products.
2) let the farmers make a GIF or a short video of the products they want to sell and post it on the app,this enables the consumers to know the quality in a much better way.
3) There are regions in India where a particular crops are grown in abundance, set up that crop specific warehouses in those areas and facilitate those farmers to make it easier to sell with you in bulk quantities. This can help you serve the bigger food processing companies and increases the farmer's profits.

Here is a live test of the FArmour Partner App. We showed the app to the farmers at Hubli APMC and received a positive feedback. They felt that the initiative can help them to a large extent. We spoke to Mr Ranjith who had traveled 400 kms from his village to sell his goods, he felt that the farmers can easily adapt themselves with technology as it makes the task easier.

Our aim is to provide the farmers with a Marketplace that is fair and gives true value for their products and establish a direct connect between the Farmers and the Customers. The FArmour's objective is to cater to the Farmer's Requirements such as Investments, Policy, FarmTech and strong data enabled Decision Support to make better decisions. We believe "Arming the Farmers will shield us against Food Crisis".

Our Background

60% of the world's population and 50% of India's population is dependent on agriculture. It is necessary to provide the farmers with a market that pays them the true value for their products. We are a team of Computer Science Engineers trying to make an impact in the society of 8 Billion people where nearly 13,000 farmers commit suicide every year in India alone, due to Bankruptcy caused due to improper marketing or fraud. The Farm sector in India and also around the world is ruled by middlemen(agents) who play a spoilsport in the profit earned by the farmers. The price of the commodities is largely controlled by these middlemen who illegally hold large stocks of the agricultural produce to increase the demand and hence when the demand increases they sell these commodities for higher prices. We come from an agricultural background and understand the problems faced by the farmers. And as Computer Science Engineers we want to address this issue by providing the fair market the farmers deserve through our App and thereby bringing technology to the hands of our farmers. The FArmour is a step towards the change we want to see in the lives of our farmers as we strongly believe " Arming the Farmers with technology will shield us against Food Crisis" and it is a way forward to feed the 9+ billion people by 2050.
