Insight+Insight+Insight

Based on our learning during this initiative we came across the following insights.
1)1 in 7 people on the planet or roughly 1 billion people go hungry to bed everyday.
2)40% of the total food produced is wasted either at the source itself or leaks through the faulty supply chain mechanism.
3)30-35% of global food crop fails due diseases and pests.
4)Average global income of a person is 2$/day whereas food prices have seen a constant increase.

Global Foodies-Mayorga Supply Chain Model / Published December 25, 2016 by Vinay Mawandia

Global Foodies-Mayorga Supply Chain Model

Efficiently managing the supply chain is key to limiting the food prices. In this regard,The concept of Mayorga Supply Chain Model shows a ray of hope. With the advent of multinational firms in agriculture, this sector had undergone commercialization.Agriculture historically was seen as means of sustainability but with forays of corporate it has became victim to the bottom-line mentality. In this conceptual model the middleman is eliminated, enhancing the participation of community(of Farmers) in the value chain. The goal here is to distribute the profits to the farmer community and also provide consumers with fresh produce at a reasonable price.

Our Mission

Farmer is the most important member of a food chain, yet ironically he is the least rewarded.Farm2Fork is an initiative to introduce a mechanism to provide farmer with his due value of work. The biggest contributor to food crises today is the faulty supply chain. The profits are been gobbled up by people who exist only because there exist no alternative. We wish to provide that alternative.Leveraging the technology,we will help the farmers reach directly to end consumer.Additionally, Farm2Fork will introduce a 'pooling' mechanism wherein the agricultural produce will reach the market at minimum cost and consuming minimal resources. Our team stands for rights of a consumer whose average earning has fallen to 2$/day(worldwide average) and who is constantly been denied his right to food by people with vested interest.

Our Background

We are a team of 5 Information Technology Engineers. For us,'Thought for food' is a platform for collaborating and designing mechanism to solve food crises that our species is facing today. It is often said that, today IT drives the world. We by means of Farm2Fork want to prove the same. Our team members have been part of various initiatives dealing with similar issues. Some of us have worked with non-governmental organizations in issues facing us.Information Technology has been the greatest leveler for mankind, bringing all sort of information to people regardless of social, financial status.Team Farm2Fork with the help of information technology is trying to bridge the gap and blur the distinctions that exist in the agriculture sector irrespective of national boundaries.
