NuntAgri

Using Network Logistics to Fight Hunger Worldwide

NuntAgri is a service offered through SMS which revolutionizes regional-based food distribution logistics through means of crowd-sourcing.

Use Case

There are no easy ways for farmers, grocers, and delivery people to coordinate a transaction. NuntAgri will be a service offered via SMS that simplifies this process for users worldwide. Users start by establishing an account as a farmer, grocer, or transporter. Farmers initiate a conversation with our chatbot, and input what they have to sell. Grocers initiate a conversation with our chatbot to search the goods local farmers are selling, and purchase them at will. Once a purchase has been made, our algorithms will select a transporter. Our chatbot will give this intermediary the pickup and delivery details. By connecting people and creating a supply chain network, we can coordinate the transport of food to where it’s needed, making a serious contribution in the fight against world hunger!

Potential

Our app has many innovative aspects. Most notably, our app... - Uses an SMS based chat-bot that has been trained using machine learning techniques Our chat-bot collects relevant information from users so that we can understand their needs and determine how to best serve them. (No need to download an app!) -Crowdsources delivery services, which increases the strength of our distribution network, and stimulates local economies. Think Uber, for food delivery. -Uses an A* search algorithm to determine the optimal logistics for transactions, creating supply chain networks for people all over the world. -Offers payment between users via existing SMS based banking services, such as M-Pesa. This will expand our reach to include users in developing countries.

Business Case

Grocers and farmers must communicate directly to check on the stock of the farmer’s goods that a grocer wants to purchase. This can be an inefficient process for multiple reasons. NuntAgri aims to be a an Uber-esque service that enables people to use the logistical resources of the local region. By creating an ever-growing network of transporters, NuntAgri is able to provide a global method of purchasing or selling agricultural produce. Our service will handle all the payment processing in each transaction, cutting out any third party fees that may increase costs for buyers. Buyers are charged a single fee that will cover their entire order, where the transporter and seller are paid through NuntAgri.

Objectives:

  1. Consolidate the process of food transportation into a single service to be used by food sellers, buyers, and the distributors in between.
  2. Reduce food waste by creating a sophisticated network of farmers, grocers, & delivery people that’s accessible and intuitive.
  3. Increase the worldwide food logistics efficiency to around 85%, which could feed 10 billion people.
