EcoScan App - Your Kitchen's Smart Assistant

Smart way to manage your food and plan meals, for zero-foodwaste lifestyle.

EcoScan uses Artificial Intelligence to assist you on managing your food and suggesting plan for everyday meals smartly and zero-foodwaste.

Use Case

If you cook at home, have you ever thrown away some rotten tomatoes or an expired yogurt pack because you forget them in fridge or bought too many that you can't eat them all? That's my and other homemakers’ challenge, which has created up to 100+ kg of food waste every year PER PERSON (according to F.A.O). Two of the main reasons of food waste are the homemakers could be bad at planning to purchase food (1), and can't remember food's expiry date (2). Thus, reducing food waste currently depends on homemakers’ time and effort, and it could be an unwanted task in busy days. What if there is a solution that helps you and homemakers not only be able to manage food’s expiry date, suggest you personalized plan to purchase and use your daily food, but also easy, smart, and interesting to use?

Potential

We develop EcoScan as a smartphone application, using Artificial Intelligence to automatically recognizes food from your phone’s camera, read printed expiry date on food’s label or estimate base on food’s condition. Then, EcoScan will suggest you a plan for your meals, base on number of serving and expiry date of all the food you’ve got. Moreover, EcoScan learn from your real consumption habit to suggest you a shopping plan that save your money from unwanted food waste. EcoScan aims to help individuals and families to cut down food waste in daily household by managing shopping plan and suggesting meals more efficiently. In future, EcoScan users could exchange or donate their near expired/ unwanted food among their neighborhood or to the one who need to reduce food waste.

Business Case

As EcoScan collects data from users’ food consumption behavior, we will be able to suggest users to order their daily food from supermarkets and food stores directly from EcoScan’s screen. Thus, EcoScan get commission from each transaction ordered via our app. This is our main revenue stream. Besides that, EcoScan can suggest food and groceries for family base on their shopping behavior, location, family members. We can be a channel to send shopping coupons, promotion from close by stores to their potential customers, then we can get advertisement fee.

Objectives:

  1. Reduce food waste in household: EcoScan helps people to plan to purchase and use food smartly, efficiently
  2. Exchange or Donate food to the one who need: While you have food that you won’t eat, there is someone around you who need it more than you.
  3. Help food retailers and producers to plan better in producing and selling food, so they won’t have to throw away unwanted remain products.
