An implementation of multiphase flow by varying the flow of air and water to generate micro-sized bubbles for fish pond aeration

Use Case

Mr. Kustamin is a fish farmer in a rural village in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He does fish farming traditionally without any helps of technologies. One of the biggest problem he frequently has to face is the mass mortality of his fish. As far as he knows, he has to reduce the amount of fish in each pond to suppress the mortality rate. He has done this kind of fish farming method for decades now and he thinks there are no possible ways to increase the fish production of a single pond without enlarging it. Mr. Kustamin also doesn’t have much interest in technology because for him bringing technology means spending much money and he just simply doesn’t has the resources.

Potential

In cases like Mr. Kustamin’s, fishes’ death was happened because the water is lacking in oxygen and the fish were suffocated. To be able to maximize the number of fish grown in a pond, a good aeration that can distribute oxygen evenly in the whole pond is needed. A common aerator, the one that produce macro-sized bubbles, can’t distribute the oxygen very well especially in the bottom of the pond. Thus, making it uninhabitable for the fish. Because of its properties, micro-sized bubbles can stay longer in the bottom of the pond. As it bursts, it would increase the dissolved oxygen level of the bottom area thus making it habitable for the fish. MINO can help fish farmer escalate their productivity by increasing the number of fish in each pond without the fear of mass mortality of fishes.

Business Case

With the spirit of “A bubble for today, a hope for tomorrow”, MINO is offering small-scale fish farmers in Indonesia the hope to be able to produce more yield using an affordable intensive aquaculture technology that enable them to save more money on land acquisition. By giving them the means to increase their productivity, we are hoping to see an increase in food supply of Indonesia and the betterment of fish farmers life quality. Other than that, we are hoping that MINO could be the drivers of innovation in local industry, whether it is the manufacturer, distributor, and other stakeholder in aquaculture industry so anyone can get the trickle down effect of fish farming, wherever they are.
