1. Red Fruit has always been around Indonesia and utilized by people in Papua in their daily life. Research has been done to observe their chemical compound and health benefit. Red Fruit Oil (RFO) are primarily rich in Beta Carotene and Tocopherol as main source of antioxidants which contribute to it’s red color. As a Food Technologist, it is our task to find their application. As seen from it’s characteristic, RFO isn’t suited to be used as cooking oil but as edible oil. One of the most serious health problems in Indonesia is Vitamin A Deficiency (VAD).

2. The application of RFO in a staple diet would be beneficial to suppress the number of VAD sufferers. It is best to utilize RFO in a popular dish so it can reach a lot of people. According to survey held in the past, around 70% of Indonesian love to consume instant noodle regardless of the pros and cons. Instant noodle is a cheap, convenient, popular dish that uses vegetable edible oil. The seasoning in an instant noodle is usually red colored due to chilli powder used, thus should not reduce consumers‘ sensory acceptance overall. Instant noodle would be a ideal choice for RFO application.

3. The challenge is to educate consumers about the benefits of consuming RFO, it can be done by inclusion of nutritional value on food label. But further study about food regulation, especially regarding to health claim is needed. The aim of increasing access to micro nutrients intake is salient in solving main health problems. Food shouldn’t only give satiety, but provides essential nutrients for people wellness. A development of local noodle using ingredients such as cassava and corn with RFO seasoning is also promising. RFO has the potential to be developed even further to the world, so it is not only used in Papua. It would not be developed and the price would remain expensive.

Iterate

After asking experts, consumers, and team for feedback and critics, there were some issues that need to be solved. More or less, we thought we do not have to redefine or change our concept. Based on our testing, we gained some insight and answers to what we set out to test? We are not yet ready to start pitch but soon will be. Our action plan is to gather with full team member to discuss intensely about the overall progress and the most important, final pitch.

Our Mission

Our mission is to introduce red fruit oil, the hidden gem of Indonesia, as the answer of malnourishment in the world. We believe that improving nutrition content in foods that are widely consumed is a more effective solution than curing the effect of malnourishment itself. By exposing red fruit to the world, we also carry the mission to empower Papuans, most importantly the farmers, by building a strong partnership with them.

Our Background

Our team consists of 4 dedicated, passionate students specialized in Food Industry. We are unified by one purpose: to solve the world's food sustainability issues and made an impact by solving at least a small portion of global food security. We want to help providing a reasonable, feasible, and coherent solution for food. Growing up in Indonesia with its vast resources, we aspire to discover and utilize natural ingredients to help feed the world while also improving people’s health.
