Agrovest

Connect now,Feed generations.

An offline platform for farmers, buyers, logistics & micro financial support systems on simple cellular phones with no internet connections.

Use Case

A local farmer having fertile land measuring upto 5 acres can harvest up to 5 tons of food and yet has a storage unit that can accommodate only 2.5 tons of food, hence leaving the surplus harvest no room.with limited/no access to the internet based online platforms for buyers, okello leaves his produce to stay in the field as he waits for buyers to find him,as time goes the produce are wasted in the field due to effects of weather, pests and animals.but with his cellular phone he can now access the market through an offline platform which enables him get vital information about farming, link with viable seed suppliers and sell his surplus produce, this help him reduce his 50% loss to less than 10% as he can sell and link up inspite of not having a smart device and access to the internet

Potential

70% of sub-Saharan Africa rely on agriculture directly and yet famine/poverty dominate.farmers incur losses upto 5% during harvesting and 10% in store units with the value increasing with duration of storage.with internet evolution, limited access to vital farming information is still a challenge and illiteracy makes it difficult to fully embrace smart device online platforms as they are made for high end users. The offline platform will link rural farmers to vital farming information, viable seed suppliers(quality control),potential buyers and to near transport agents. Post-harvest losses increase with storage duration and reduce with better access to market, an offline platform can reduce the 40 % post-harvest losses by 15% and save $4 billion that can feed 48 million more people.

Business Case

Most of 24m ugandan/ 647m African farmers have not fully embraced the use of modern online platforms and smart devices such as smart phones and tabs, but can operate normal cellular phones, this is brought about by limited access and the ever growing prices of the smart devices (100$ above in prices) compared to the normal mobile phones (10$) which makes it 10 times cheaper & online platforms require data connections making it expensive and inconvinient, offline USSD platform is universally accessible on any mobile phone,This makes it a powerful marketing tool for leading users to services, interactive USSD applications are ubiquitous in the African mobile ecosystem.,through co-partnering with producers/processors we ensure ready market for farmers with 3$ annual fee unlimited access.

Objectives:

  1. To reduce 40% post harvest losses to less than 10% through offering a cheap route for surplus produce by linking farmers to immediate buyers
  2. To create an accessible interructive environment for the flow of information amongst farmers in different areas through an offline platform.
  3. To eliminate the poverty/famine cycle prevailing among rural farmers in sub-saharan Africa and around the world by increasing productivity.

#Zero Hunger,#No Poverty.....its not a myth,its achievable.

according to food and agricultural organisation 1.5% of food is lost during harvest and on field as farmers do not have direct link with immediate buyers, this causes delay of produce in the fields leading to wastage of 5% of harvested produce and 10% of harvested food are lost in the stores to actions of pest and diseases as buyers opt to store as they wait for buyers, food is always stored to buy more time for buyers and yet the longer they stay in the stores the more they are lost.
Agrovest reduces the food loss during the field waiting and storage time by providing an alternative quick route for transaction in real time through the cheap, reliable and qucik offline platform which helps local farmers link to buyers and vice versa,as well link farmers to nearest qualified registered transport agents to help reduce on losses due to poor handling during transportation.
with the offline platform the 5% & 10 % food loss are transformed into 15% income profit for small holders farmers and more household food.and as well the surplus can be used to feed unproductive areas.
hence proper planning and a more organised system in production, distribution and consumption will help us minimise and eradicate food wastage in fields, store units and market places.this can be done by having a more organised accessible link between the different parties involved in the agricultural food chain, this means right from grass root farmers, local buyers, urban buyers, logistics and other support systems need to be organised, through this we can eradicate poverty & hunger and archieve the UN Sustainability Develoment Goal of zero Hunger and No poverty and still have enough food to feed the ever growing population and that is what AGROVEST stands for.#Zero Hunger#No Poverty
