Kyaffe Farmers Coffee

Empowering women through locally made coffee

Kyaffe Farmers Coffee trains women small holder farmers to locally grow and process coffee beans into a finished branded product.

Use Case

Uganda’s economy 75% depends on farming, coffee being the most grown and exported product engaging 43 of women farmers. Unfortunately, coffee farmers typically live and work in substandard conditions, which are compounded by the fact that they receive only a small percentage of the actual price for which the coffee is sold to the consumer.Aside from the day-to-day struggles women coffee farmers face in order to maintain a respectable standard of living, they also struggle with the gender inequality prevalent throughout the world’s coffee growing regions, abuse, neglect and poverty, women are unable to gain economic, social and political power in their family’s coffee business, or in their communities and yet they hold an integral part in ensuring the success of coffee in the marketplace.

Potential

Kyaffe Farmers Coffee will help increase coffee consumption among small holder women coffee farmers, this will increase food security among rural small holder women coffee farmers. Kyaffe Farmers Coffee will also increase income levels among small holder farmers since they will be in position to meet fair prices of their coffee when they sell their products directly to the consumers. This will help reduce the challenge of food scarcity and eradicate prevailing poverty among small holder coffee farmers.

Business Case

We train women coffee farmers to grow 100% high quality organic coffee, that they process into a finished branded product which they sell directly to the final consumer. We train them to decompose organic fertilizers from waste and learn organic pest control methods. We train them on how to locally roast and grind using a mortar and pistol which is reliable, affordable and easy to use. They package the coffee in eco-friendly bags which have no effect to the environment. They sell directly to the final consumers through trade fairs, events and market areas.

Objectives:

  1. To have a hunger free generation through innovative ways of farming and production.
  2. To eliminate middle men and promote fair prices among women small holder farmers.
  3. To promote equality among women in Uganda through supporting women in the organisation programmes
