Futodder

The future of fodder

Futodder is a fully automated modular hydroponic fodder system wishing to be an accessible technological solution for livestock producers.

Use Case

Everyday demand for food increases, specially the need of protein. Animal protein is unfortunately produced unsustainably due to high water wastage, vast areas to produce feed and even transportation fees farmers have to pay to get animal feed to their farms. With that in mind, Futodder is intended to be a solution for any type of farmer that would like an affordable and sustainable way to produce animal feed. By being fully automated it is possible to control through a computer or mobile device irrigation flow and duration, temperature and humidity. The user only has to install our fodder system with our personalized technical support. Futodder is completely modular, and can be placed in a reduced space. When completely set up the user can start profiting from sustainability.

Potential

Futodder not only makes sustainable and affordable animal feed for livestock producers but also helps them to connect with technology. This solution complies with precision agriculture which has been advocated by the Food and Agriculture Organization because of the abrupt changes in weather; and with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Futodder will improve management and affordability of an alternative animal feed, help the planet by reducing water, reduce deforestation caused by agriculture, but most importantly will help to make farmers part of the globalized world by integrating them with technology. We want to be by the user’s side, support them with the use of a fully automated hydroponic fodder system like Futodder.

Business Case

We aim to provide our solution through diverse partnerships, right now Futodder works with Colombia’s biggest hydroponic supplier, using this alliance as an initial customer platform we wish to help existing producers with the benefits of precision agriculture. Besides aiming directly to the user, we also hope in public-private cooperation. New farmers, getting their land back thanks to the Peace Accords in Colombia, can benefit from sustainable livestock production from the beginning of their journey. At first Futodder is sold as a modular system which is then programmed to the users needs followed up by guidance to ensure the full benefit from our solution. We hope to grow as a business that helps its customers by creating networks in order to become a big livestock producer community.

Objectives:

  1. Become a solution for the sustainability issue livestock producers for nowadays.
  2. Be a connection between livestock producers and technology through and affordable and sustainable way to produce animal feed.
  3. Generate networks between producers, private and public institutions and our company for a better agroindustrial future.

Futodder: The Future of Fodder

After hours of trying, we finally came up with our team name, Futodder. It stands for Future-Fodder.

For the design, we decided we wanted to make something simple. However, we came up with dozens of ideas, after a voting session and asking our relatives the finalist were the ones in the picture.
Finally Futodder decided to go for a simple and good looking-green logo, which is the one seen in the profile picture.

It's working!!!

Although we have been a little bit delayed, it has not stopped us to continue working. We hope very soon, we can test our prototype with a user. We already have the contacts. It just getting all together and finding the time.

In the meantime, we are very excited that our console is tracking and working!

Almost done! How amazing is teamwork. Take a look at our first prototype. Isn’t it amazing? It was built with our own hands, always having in mind what the user would like. Check out our GIF on Twitter! The first view of our solution.

Time for a Boost!

Working. Always. There is no time to waste. Although it is always good to gain your energy back with a delicious apple.

It has not been easy to get together, we all have different ideas and priorities. However, we believe in this project and in the change it can make. We always find the time to get together and work all day.

Post It... and Cows?!

Since the beginning, we knew that if we wanted to feed so many people, we had to focus on the rural areas. That is why we have this amazing cow picture posing with our post it’s, it is an inspiration for us to think that our idea will help millions of farmers.

Our Mission

In the future the demand of animal protein will rise. We believe, that with the help of technology, livestock can be raised in a more sustainable way. The need of producing such protein sustainably can be achieved through fully automated hydroponic fodder systems. Our goal is that farmers implement these systems without any technical concerns and take advantage of raising more livestock sustainably by reducing land and water usage thus generating a boost in their profitability.

Our Background

An aspiring Physician who wishes to improve child nutrition and two pursuing Engineers, one that loves automatization and another who wants to give back to farmer families that have suffered from violence. All working together in a complete solution for problems our country has battled throughout the years; hunger and inefficient land usage. We see a bright future for farmer development, land is being restored to families that once worked it and with technology everything for them can be better.
