AgriCreators

Engaging the Youth

An incentivized online platform to enable knowledge flows from Agro-Tech professionals to Caribbean primary and secondary school students.

Use Case

Boyo, tired of seeing his mummy spend large amounts of her salary in the grocery, wanted to plant dasheen, baigan and other agricultural produce that can offset these hefty purchases, on their small plot of land. However, as a primary school student, he lacked the expertise to maximize production. Carla, a form 6 student, desired to share her ideas to develop food security locally and learn from accredited professionals but lacked the desired access and platform to accomplish this. But as of 2018 both of their schools subscribed to AgriCreators' application and website, which is a new age agricultural educational tool, designed to encouraging knowledge and information sharing from regional professionals to students in order to encourage student involvement in agriculture.

Potential

The application and website is designed to be very interactive tool for students and professionals in the field. It is beneficial for several reasons:It encourages youth to take an active role in their food securityIt encourages the dissemination by professionals and students of information, so that knowledge is shared by professionals to students and by students to their communitiesIt provides the best professionals and experts from across the regionIt encourages innovation among the youthIt can be implemented into the educational curriculum of any countryStudents will have the opportunity and support systems to turn their ideas into a reality and their new innovations can further contribute to enhancing food security in their communities, country and region.

Business Case

The efforts of AgriCreators is a non profit venture, purely for creating networks for information exchange and youth agency in food security. However it will be sustained through a subscription service of $5,000 dollars per year for each primary and secondary school utilizing our service, with the service cost projected to trend downward with a wider revenue base. With an initial buy in of 10 percent of the targeted population, revenue is projected to be at $250,000 TT Dollars to be reinvested for in app maintenance and improvements, funding of face to face mentorship workshops with the youth, and potentially a grant to fund innovative ideas and initiatives from our target population.

Objectives:

  1. To encourage Caribbean students in primary and secondary schools to take an active role in local and regional food security
  2. To allow knowledge sharing from regional professionals (agriculture and technology) to students, then from students to the wider community
  3. To encourage students to create innovative solutions to enhancing food security within their communities
