WOMEN FOR FOOD SECURITY (WOFS)

Food for the world through women

The project intends to increase women access to production resource for food production to promote food security.

Use Case

The type of farm input used in agricultural production have direct influence on the output levels or productivities of farmers. The users of the project are categorized into two. Thus; service users and product users. The Small holder women farmers will use the tractor services to cultivate crops. The product users include household and school; where households will purchase products relayed in the market by beneficiary farmers or farmers’ contributions to the project as payments for services. We will liaise with schools both basic and secondary cycle to provide them with our reliable food produces.

Potential

The proportion of women labour in crop production is high. If they have adequate access to other production resources, it will have the potential to improve food security. It has the potential to leverage women from the hustles they normally have to go through to feed their families in Northern-Ghana. The project also has the potential to provide farm services to other farmers who wish to expand their production

Business Case

A token will be charged of all services and paid during harvest in the form of farm produce. We will also serve as a market source for these farmers for surplus produce which will be linked to the popular school feeding program in the country. Other remaining proceeds would then be kept and sold at the time they have high market value or there for them in the market and invested to increase the capital base of the project for continuous running of the project. Further, services that are rendered for these beneficiaries including tractor services would be rendered for other individuals who may need these services at a charge to help raise funds for the project. All these measures and many others will help this project to be a business sensitive,

Objectives:

  1. To equip women in agricultural production; to ensure food security in five communities in the Upper East region of Ghana.
  2. To create sustainable source of income for beneficiaries.
  3. To empower beneficiaries to be financially sound to take responsibility for their agricultural production in the third year of the project.

Our Team

Our Mission

To address the issue of food insecurity through the involvement of women in food production

Our Background

We are intellectuals who are passionate in making people have adequate access to food. Many categories of people (including women) have inadequate access to food due to their inaccessibility to production resources especially Northern Ghana, therefore, faces hunger crises. This calls for global concerns to lessen the burden these groups of people face by increasing their access to agricultural production resources, propelling us to contribute our quota by engaging in this program.
