e-farms

Farm; buy; sell; store; online

e-farms is an online b2b market platform enabling farmers to sell their farm produce and get information and assistance for storage.

Use Case

John is a local farmer who plants and harvests food crops for sale purposes. It is not possible for John to sell of the total amount of produce he harvests in a single season and he lacks the right storage facilities to store them till more market is available. On the other hand, Mike is the owner of a local cereal producing company who would need such kind of raw food materials in large quantities, but at the convenient time of his business. So John registers as a seller on the e-farms website and that gives him access to the use of our silo complexes for the storage of his excess food crops. Mike also registers on our website, but as a buyer, so he could place orders for a certain amount of grains for his cereal factory and come pick them up from our Silo complexes.

Potential

Too much of the world’s food harvest is lost to spoilage and infestation on its journey to the consumer. Losses occur in all operations, from harvesting through handling, storage, processing, and marketing. There is an active 25m MT+ per annum grain crop production in Nigeria. Of this number, a significant amount is wasted as a result of improper storage. This should not be the case in a company with at least one government-owned silo complex in 33 of her 36 states. Commercializing the silo complex operation through private sector engagement unlocks N99.3 Billion economic value. If these numbers can become a reality, this concept can also be adopted in other parts of the world, leading to a paradigm in grain production, storage, and marketing.

Business Case

E-farms is an online market that follows the Horizontal Business-to-Business Model. It aims at linking farmers to prospective buyers by making public samples of their goods on our website. The farmers would be able to reach us by telephone, electronic mail or by the use of our app/site. We also provide agricultural extension services by: i Informing farmers of scientific and technological advancements in agriculture ii Assisting them in its application iii Providing them with information about government-owned storage and processing facilities nearest to them to minimize waste iv Assisting them with haulage and other logistics to these sites.

Objectives:

  1. To commercialize the management of silo complexes across the country
  2. To help farmers with little or no access to adequate storage facilities store their excess farm produce.
  3. To connect these farmers to prospective buyers of their stored farm produce through our online platform.

Our Team

Our Mission

e-farms is aimed at curbing waste of agricultural produce by commercializing silo complex operations through private engagement with the Nigerian government to store excess produce of grains by local farmers. This stored produce can then be bought directly by individuals and companies by placing orders on the e-farms online site, thereby increasing the market potential of grain crops in the country, and subsequently, across Africa and beyond.

Our Background

We are a team of three young Nigerian graduates with core engineering backgrounds who are passionate about making sustainable agricultural impact in today's society by eliminating the discord present during food production, storage and distribution. We plan to achieve our aim by partnering with the government to manage preexisting silo complexes across the county and create an online grain crop market for both farmers and buyers.
