Pearl Farm

Farming together and easier

Westreamline collaborations through which Investors support farmers with capital of farming and later returnes are shared

Use Case

Most of the world’s poorest and hungriest people are small holder farmers yet they the most hard working. In Uganda, they makeup 85% of the agricultural sector, the main challenge is that these farmers have limited access to resources and capital to purchase yield-enhancing inputs and they practice crude farming methods which leads to low crop yields which leads to less food available for the family and low income to support the basic needs. Pearl Farm is building collaborations between people who minds about farming, in these collaborations, people who love to farm but lacks time provides capital for farming to a smallholder farmer via an online application and gets a share from the farmers sales/harvest, this will increase production since farmers will have enough resources.

Potential

Pearl Farm is bridging the gap between the subsistence sector and the commercial agricultural sector through connecting small holder farmers to capital and other necessary resources that can boost their food production. In addition, farmers are also provided with trainings and a mentor who gives guidance and follow up through the growing process plus connecting them to farmers insurance to minimize losses for the investor and the farmer. We believe that once small holder farmers have access to all the necessary resources and inputs, they will increase their production by 60%, have enough food for their families, make more money for both the investor and themselves to meet their basic needs. This will increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product and increase food security.

Business Case

Pearl Farm locates small holder farmers who lacks capital from farmers groups, the farmer provides details eg their acreage, crop and expected return. We then upload the data to our online application and match the farmers with the interested investors. Once the investor is got, pearl farm support the farmer to get all the resources and inputs, training and follow up. Interested investors’ signs up online and are kept updated with the progress of their virtual farm,After harvest cycle, the investors receive back their capital plus the agreed profit via bank transfer and informed of the next investing opportunity. The farmer takes a share of 50% because they own the land and are the care taker of the farm, the investor takes 25% and the remaining 25% to cover our expenses and sustainability.

Objectives:

  1. To facilitate easy and transparent participation for everyone that loves to farm into farming without physically them being in the farm.
  2. To enable small holder farmers to access capital and resources to expand their production.
  3. To encourage increased production of food to overcome food shortage.
