We use local content to develop 50% saving water irrigation kit, effective for food production within limited city spaces

Use Case

By the year 2050, the population of the world will raise to 10 Billion, 70 percent of this persons will resides in cities across the world. So, there will be high rate of poverty and hidden hunger mostly faced by women in Nigeria. Food security will be a challenge, owing to land tenure systems, climate change, defragmentation, rural urban migration to mention but a few. It is expedient to feed the world by strategically growing food within the cities using simple local smart techniques and technologies. To this end, we have developed a 50% water saving irrigation kit, suitable for urban farming and home gardening. Using Local Knowledge Initiative, The kit uses capillary movement principle to trap water under the soil and irrigate the plants with precision.

Potential

It is inconceiveable that 12% of the World water goes into household use, 19% into industrial use while the remaining 69% goes into Agriculture, Our concept will change the world by reducing the amount of water used for agriculture by 50% provided all hands are on deck. Thereby, producing more from limited resources.

Business Case

We train youths and women on this concept, we give imputs and we offtake while we sell to market. This will: 1. Improve the livelihoods of the youths and women trained 2. Help the society produce more Clean, Green and Healthy food 3. Reduced water for Irrigation Competitive Advantage Ten competitive of this irrigation kits is as follows: 1. It conserves water by 50% 2. It reduces weed growth 3. It is durable for backyard farming unlike others # 4. It can last for 5 years 5. It Saves time- you only fill in 40L of water once a week 6. It is cheap and affordable 7. It is easy to install 8. You can know the exact number of plants you have on the field 9. It is movable 10. It reduces weed competition, because the kit waters the crops only

ProtectOzone a youth-led, non-government and nonprofit organization saddled with the mandate of mobilizing citizen consciousness in protecting ozone layer while ensuring food security using innovative (or innoNATIVE as we say) approaches. We care about eradicating extreme poverty and hidden hunger mostly faced by women and girls because, women are the first to sacrifice their food during insurgencies. We innovated a 50% water saving Irrigation which is suitable for home gathering and it will help the affected families produce food with less water close to their homes. We are participating in this challenge to be privy to resources to reach more indigent persons in the most rural and fragile areas of Nigeria.
