Native Potatoes

produce snack of native potatoes

transform native potatoes into healthy snack.

Use Case

At present the daily feeding of people is unhealthy, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the consumption of junk food in Peru grew by 260% in the last 10 years. This figure is an alert for health authorities. Among the unhealthy foods are potato snacks, which contain a high content of fat and preservatives, which are consumed by children, youth and adults.

Potential

In the Huánuco region there is production of native potatoes that are produced by ancestral techniques. Xavier Cuestas (INIAP researcher) points out that yellow, red and black potatoes, which are native potatoes, have a high content of antioxidants, vitamin C, iron, zinc and potassium, their fiber is recommended for a good digestion and for combating the bad cholesterol. The Peruvian chef, Emmanuel Piqueras (researcher of the potentialities of the tuber) points out that "Peruvian native potato snacks have 41 times more nutrients than the golden potato or fried potato sold in the United States." Our solution to the consumption of junk food, specifically in the consumption of unhealthy snacks is to make native potato snacks, which will benefit the person in general.

Business Case

Our idea is to transform the native potatoes produced in the Huanuco - Peru region into a snack of native potatoes, and to market it to segments A and B of the capital Lima - Peru. the Crocaps Company has been working in this area without a specific segmentation, through this contest we want to innovate the plant, improve the presentation and segment it. To ensure our input we want to associate producers who grow native potatoes, to develop a direct purchase towards them at a fair price

Objectives:

  1. Reach segment A and B of the city of Lima Modern in a short period of time.
  2. Innovate our production plant and final product.
  3. Work hand in hand with native potato farmers.
