Our aim is to detect leaf diseases of agricultural crops and plant using image processing techniques

Use Case

This system is primarily targeted to farmers who use android phones, by use of camera in their phones the unhealthy crops and plants can be separated from the healthy ones. Often, farmers suffer economic loss due to a certain infestation of certain insect/pests. Tomatoes are very susceptible to insect/pests, especially tomato hornworms and whiteflies. Thus, they need proper care and protection. This system will provide information regarding the condition of the agricultural crops and plants. Helping farmers detect the disease in crops and plants in early stage and prevent farmers form any kind of loss is the main objective of ours. Tomatoes, potatoes, etc. grow in all sizes, from tiny “currant” to “cherry” to large “beefsteak.”

Potential

With means of proper user interface we have made it easy for the users to access all the function. Any user of any age and intellectual capability can easily use our app if they have the working knowledge of any android apps. Also, we have made it easy for farmers to get the necessary information about treatment methods and tips regarding vegetables, fruits cultivation. We have kept our user interface simple and easy to understand. We found application to be technically feasible, the features of the application would make life of the farmers easier and convenient. Since this application is based on image processing which has much scope in current technical world.

Business Case

Our system is affordable and operational since it runs using normal android devices and no more additional and specific device is required. Plant disease can increase the cost of agricultural production and may extend to total economic disaster of producer if not cured appropriately at early stages. The producers need to monitor their crops and detect the first symptoms in order to prevent the spread of plant disease. Nowadays, smartphones are very common used by everyone even farmers too due to reduced cost and also internet is easily accessible. Nevertheless, technological innovations in tomato plant production are not reaching to the farmers, either because most of them are illiterates or due to unawareness.

Objectives:

  1. To detect leaf diseases of agricultural crops and plant using image processing techniques.
  2. To provide possible solutions to the diseases which were detected.
  3. To provide general information regarding agricultural crops and plant cultivation
