Land utilization and productivity boosting.

We want to increase productivity of arable land through soil sampling & irrigation, provide high quality seeds and market to farmers.

Use Case

Keb is a farmer in Uganda and he owns 30 acres of arable land, with 10 acres containing a banana plantation, although, he is still struggling to meet his family basic needs due to low yields.The reasons for low productivity could have been, growing low quality seeds on the suitable soil,or growing good quality seeds on the unsuitable soil, and to the worst, low quality seeds on unsuitable soils. We engaged him, did soil sampling on his land, and found out that his land was not suitable for a banana plantation.we then agreed to use only 4 acres of his land for organic polyculture of beans, cassava, corns & passion fruits while using freely available green manure and other organic fertilizers.At the end of the first seasons, his returns from only 4 acres were higher than that from 10 acres.

Potential

According to World Bank/FAO study, Africa is the largest under- utilized land reserve in the world with about 10% of its arable land cultivated. Its irrigation potential remains largely untapped. About 70% of people in Africa and roughly 80% of the continent's poor, live in rural areas. Most of these people depend on agriculture for their livelihoods, and are increasingly unable to meet their basic food needs as population pressure on land grows, and agricultural productivity stagnates. We therefore strongly believe that agricultural growth is more important for Africa than for any other continent. Our concept will reduce the high levels of undernourished children and poverty, improve health and education standards for children of farmers in Uganda and on the whole continent.

Business Case

With the rapidly increasing population and demand for food, increasing the yield capacity of high quality produce on the global market is a real deal. Every farmer would like to have maximum productivity from their farm. Consequently, every body wants the best quality product from the market, either for consumption or for agricultural purposes. So we strongly believe that farmers will accept our offer to help them increase their productivity, on a memorandum of understanding that, they will sell to us their produce once it's ready. We shall supply this high quality produce to our Ugandan local market and also export it to the global market. We believe that we shall achieve our break even point and even make profits when we put our produce on market as the farmer enjoys their fair price.

Objectives:

  1. To improve productivity of the arable land through soil sampling and hence selecting the most suitable crop for that land.
  2. Developing high quality seeds and ensuring the quality of seeds which are already on the market to our partner farmers.
  3. To provide market to our partner farmers, improve their morale and ensure high quality produce to our consumers.

Our goal therefore, is to develop the under-utilized land reserves, increase the yield capacity of crop husbandry by using sustainable techniques & methods of farming, such that we can contribute to a solution of the growing demand of food, reduce poverty level and number of undernourished children, increase morale for farmers, improve health and education standards for children of farmers and the entire human race.
